While it certainly depends on the venue, brewery and beers available, the answer is almost always yes.

Magnify was giving out pours like they were trying to kick the keg.

Was not impressed with the selection of beers much either. I mean Threes is probably my favorite brewery in the area, and they have a pop up a block away. Aside from the stay gold keg for VIP, they just unloaded all those Vliet cans, really?

Definitely wont waste my money on that again next year. The selection of beers was on the weak side, some breweries (like threes above) only brought cans of beers I can find in any store, some breweries didnt bring clearly enough beer, and on and on. Also, my girlfriend kicked my ass in air hockey so that's how my night ended.

Really enjoyed all I had from Civil Society, Søle, Proclaimation, Suarez, and Sand City. Tons of different styles and really great food. Haters may choose to hate, but with fresh beer and a ton of brewers attending it came off as a big success. To dwell on a dozen or so beers that kicked quick and ignore the 100+ that didn't is pretty rude to all them other small/local breweries in attendance. Show a little love to hard working newcomers like Folksbier, Interboro, Hundson Valley, Rushing Duck, Sloop, Community Beer, etc.

Figured I’d just shove this in here:

Anyways, anybody try the collaborations b/w the “city breweries and their Long Island comrades?”

5 Long Island Collaboration Beers From NYC Beer Week You Can—And Should—Still Try
    • Don’t Sweat the Technique
      • Barrier Brewing (Oceanside) and Other Half Brewing (Brooklyn)
    • Voodoo Juice
      • Great South Bay Brewery (Bay Shore) and Lineup Brewing (Brooklyn)
    • East End Boogie
      • Greenport Harbor Brewing (Greenport, Peconic) and Gun Hill Brewing (Bronx)
    • I Saw You Eat A Muffin
      • Moustache Brewing (Riverhead) and Strong Rope Brewery (Brooklyn)
    • Big Unknown – Episode II: Attack of the Cones
      • Destination Unknown Beer Co. (Bay Shore) and Big Alice Brewing (Long Island City)

Was fortunate enough to try Don’t Sweat the Technique, which was resiny and bitter yet citrusy and tropical – Intensively hoppy, but really opened up with temp: earthy herbs, honey, juicy smoothness…Incredible

I tried DSTT, unique beer, didn't really like it. Throw Some Mo was really good.

Didn’t get to try Throw Some Mo, but was curious how Voodoo Juice turned out given the low abv: “milk stout spiked with chipotle and cayenne peppers.”

Initially preferred DSTT over TSM. That has since reversed. Drinking the former now....

I got a few cans of Attack of the Cones. Seemed pretty solid but didn't blow my mind enough to pay too much attention to it. I could say it's my favorite Big Alice beer but I'm not a fan overall so that's not saying much.

Is anyone going this year? Lineup looks great. It also took this list for me to realize how many local breweries we have in the greater NYC area.

Note, based on the beers offered/quick keg kicks from last year, anyone expecting a much improved showing? Hard to shell out $60 or $120 (not including food), for to be honest 80% beers I can acquire directly from the brewery/have on tap in the area.

That notion is exactly why I'm passing. Even for the out-of-state brewers, they do enough collaborations with NYC brewers that their beers make it to the city now and again anyway. Plus, if everyone is at this event, it will make visiting the actual breweries a little more pleasant that night!

I went last year. It was definitely not worth the money. Line to get in moved at a snails pace. Most breweries ran out of beer well before the session ended (LIC ran out in approximately 30 mins), and the food lines took forever.
