I loosely planned on hitting the totto / ippudo / ivan ramen that are in the same area.

I went to Eleven Madison Park last month for my 5th anniversary and it was amazing. Easily the best meal I've ever had in my life, and it's very much an event more so than just dinner.

We skipped the drink pairing since it seemed like a waste. We started with cocktails and they wheeled out a little bar cart and made Manhattans tableside (kinda like tableside guacamole but way cooler). Then my wife got some wine and I just ordered beer a la cart. Only bummer was that Fou Foune was on the beer menu when I made the reservation but gone when we got there.

You should tell them ahead of time that you've got some special occasion you're celebrating... After dinner was over they asked if he we had plans (we didn't, since a 3.5 hour dinner was enough for the night), gave us a key and told us someone was going to take us on adventure. a maitre'd at the front gave us hot toddies in to-go cups and walked us through the park and up to the Nomad hotel (which they own also), into the back library room reserved for guests, and they made us special cocktails there for free. And they brought out a big box that the key unlocked and it had more pastries from the EMP pastry chef in it.

New Beer is amazing. Unbelievable selection and they don't seem to have any beer experts working there. They also have an interesting and eclectic selection of taps for growler fills. The last time I was there they also had glasses for sale. Many different types and styles.

Go to Shanghai Cafe. 100 Mott Street. Joe's is a tourist trap imo.

Houston is in fact home to the original Ginger Man location, opened back in 1985. NYC didn`t come until 1996.
I`ve been to their Austin location, but it would be neat to check out the one in Houston one day.

As far as the original topic, OP, you have a solid list of bottle shops. For grub, add De Fonte`s to the list, either their original location in Brooklyn or their location in the Gramercy neighborhood. Have a great visit !

shanghai cafe may very well be my favorite restaurant in the city! i always get the same thing -- shanghai fried rice (sprinkle some white pepper on top), salt & pepper pork chops, and the crab and pork soup dumplings. wash it down with some tsingtao, and walk off the fat on the way to top hops and new beer...

It also recently got shut down by DOH for a roach infestation.

Sushi Nakazawa w/ Sake Pairing was amazing, had a extra piece of otoro and bonito. Went to cosme after, tasty Uni Tostada. I went to New Beer Distributors, Top Hops and Food Beer and was pretty disappointed with the selection. I went to the WFM in the area as well and bought a bottle of Riserva.

Today took me to Shanghai Cafe, I wasn't wowed, but it hit the spot with the cold. Off to Eleven Madison Park soon.

Any other beer stores to head to?
