Going to be in NYC Labor Day weekend and looking to visit a brewery if possible. I've been to Brooklyn and I see that Sixpoint's tours are on hiatus at the moment. Are there any other breweries near the city that are open to the public?

If not, what are some good beer bars? I've been to Blind Tiger before. Are there better ones?

Brooklyn Brewery does "tours" but it's really just going into the main room and they tell the story of the brewery and all that good stuff. That said, the one dude is really funny and makes it an enjoyable time, so if you haven't gone, I highly suggest it. I haven't been to Singlecut in Astoria yet, but I think I may check that out this weekend so I can let you know if that's worth the trip.

As for bars/stores, they've been mentioned in tons of threads here: Torst, Barcade, Breukelen Bier, and Spuyten Duyvil in Brooklyn; Blind Tiger, Pony Bar, Good Beer, Top Hops in Manhattan.

If you have a car and don't mind driving an hour, you can hit up Kane and Carton in nearby NJ. I believe that both do tours on the weekends.

Also, hit up Peekskill if you can - not sure if they do tours but the beer is more than worth it.
