My office will be near Nassau and Fulton for the next few years. Are there any nice bars in the area for a quick one or two before heading home? Stout FiDi looks promising. Anything else to check out?

Down on Stone Street there is The Growler and Stone St Tavern. Nothing mind blowing but better than average.

Fraunces Tavern is a pretty cool bar. Definitely a quirky building and old-school with a lot of history. A poster here, I believe, said Washington used to hold meetings in the building in the 1770s.

The couple of times I've been there, their taplist was solid. Their house oyster stout was solid too. I had Schlenkerla Fastenbier there on tap last Spring too. Their taplist (BM) is awesome right now.

Barleycorn is good. Clinton Hall is a bit further but has outdoor seating and gets decent stuff sometimes. Mudville 9 is also ok and has good wings.

Growlers and Bites isn't bad, and sometimes there is decent stuff at Stout. I worked on wall the last few years so any questions, shoot me a bm.

You're close to the A/C on Fulton which is only 3 stops to Hoyt-Schermehorn where you can catch the G and take that three stops to Other Half. Only about 20 min trip if the trains run smooth.

Another great option is Dead Rabbit. It's not a craft beer bar, just a really cool bar, and it does have a handful of craft beers on tap at any given time. No mind blowing beers, but the bar has a good vibe and great cocktails.

Agree with all the above. I work near Wall Street and the craft beer scene downtown is pretty sad. Clinton Hall and Stone Street (Growlers and Bites) are my usual spots.

2 stops to Jay Street on A/C then walk across the platform to the F and 3 stops to Other Half, I'll race you! (hopefully soon on a Thursday can release)

If they have something good on tap, you might really enjoy Les Halles. They should be right by your office. It's an atmospheric French restaurant, not a beer bar, but they have a bar and some quality beer.

Some of the suggestions in the thread are a bit of a walk (mainly south), but I think you'll make the trek once in a blue moon just for the mild. All in the same spot, you have: The Growler, The Dead Rabbit, Fraunces Tavern, and Bavarian Bier Haus (I haven't been to this last one). The Growler has a house beer called Growler Darrrk. This beer is Sixpoint's "Dark Mild" renamed. The Dead Rabbit features Dead Rabbit Dark... which is yet another Sixpoint dark mild... but a different one (if I remember correctly)... and it's from cask. If you are interested in alcohol past the beer list, you'll love visiting The Dead Rabbit - they have quite the reputation. They have an upstairs and a downstairs I believe - I never made it past the beer bar. Fraunces Tavern is a must see just for being a historical, cool NYC spot. They serve cask ale, but the one time I had some there (Coniston's Bluebird) it was in really bad shape. As mentioned by @guinness77 , they feature the Porterhouse brand and they have multiple bars inside with different beers at each.

Clinton Hall is more west. Their tap list can be fantastic, and unfortunately, their prices can match. Worth checking out when they have something you want. I've had Schlenkerla Marzen on tap there. I think Mudville is northwest. Decent place.

Agree Dead Rabbit is a great bar. Also surprised Barleycorn isn't getting more love. Same group as Rattle'n' Hum, has a ton of taps, and very close to the OP.

agreed with all of the above. worked down here for years. Growler will surprise you with something really awesome on tap from time to time, Clinton Hall as well. Not the best atmosphere the city has to offer by any means down here but tolerable if you need a beer or two.

To be honest, FiDi is quite lacking craft beer wise especially compared to the rest of the city and Brooklyn/Williamsburg, BUT, you're a few stops away from Blind Tiger, Rattle n Hum, The Ginger Man, Taproom 307, Draught 55 etc etc

Otherwise you're stuck with Clinton Hill, which has a really good selection, they are just obnoxiously overpriced!

Lots of really helpful stuff here- thanks for giving me a great head-start, everybody!

I don't really need access to anything hard to find, or anything like that, just a comfortable place to enjoy a few beers after work, maybe shoot the shit with the bartender and fellow patrons, and then head on up to the Port Authority. It's kind of nice to not be driving for once and be able to take advantage of that sort of thing a few nights a week. I'll mostly just look for beers that I can't get at home, or draught-only locals stuff, or something on cask, which seems like it should be doable.

I'll try a bunch of these out and see how the walk/vibe/selection all work for me, and take it from there.

Clinton Hill seems to have really changed since I last lived there in the 80s :grinning:.

@Kanger - the ironic thing about suggesting Other Half is that we are moving from Red Hook. If my hours matched up with brewers' hours I'd already be hitting there once a week. As it is, I'm out by 3-3:30 so I've never had that particular pleasure.
