Where is the best place for glassware in NYC? Heading in this weekend. Also, best place to pick up from rarer belgians in manhattan? Thanks.
What are you considering "rarer Belgians" to be? Cantillon supply has been dry lately. But if you're really dying to try one and don't mind spending some cash, go to Blind Tiger. They have LP Kriek and Fou' Foune for on-premise consumption. Otherwise, you can probably still find some 3 Fonteinen, Fantome, Hanssens and the like, around.
Was just as Blind Tiger on Thursday. They had St. Lamvinus for $45, Lou Pepe [Something - they didn't say whether geuze or kriek, but assuming kriek] for $65, and Rose de Gambrinus 375ml for $23. Drank it there. Don't think they allowed it to go, as you said. D.B.A.'s menu said they had a bunch of Cantillon, but when I went, they had none.
Don't know if you consider it rarer Belgian but there is Tilquin still to be had on shelf in NY. I am stocking up on 750's when I see them. De Cam Lambiek is around too and 3F Sharbeekse (sp) also is around. Fantome Hiver, Printemps, Noel, Saison, Pissenlit should all be easy scores. Cantiloons are MIA for most part, expensive pours at the right place. beermenus dot com is a good resource, check update dates.
