It was ok IMO. Not anywhere close to being the best beer to come out of the area. The balance wasnt there. There was decent amount of malt, a burn of alcohol and pine, but overall it didnt come together for me. I usually love Barrier's stuff, but the beers they have bottled so far have been disappointing. I know the first one was for their cause after the hurricane. Morticia tasted great last year, and I hope this will be a more solid bottling.

I just cracked open the Zythosaurus I picked up at Bierkraft and it is a flabby mess. Virtually no carbonation and way too sticky for my palate. I like my DIPAs to be hop forward with plenty of citrus and pine so when I encounter ones where the malt overwhelms the palate, as is the case with this beer, I am not a happy camper. Combine that with a lack of carbonation and I come away very disappointed, particularly given the absurdly high price point for this beer.

Hmmm, odd to hear, I have had 3 bottles of it so far and all have been carbonated very well, but yes there a strong malt presence in this DIPA.

Glad to hear the entire batch wasn't undercarbonated but I did notice at least one other review that complained of the same issue.

On the other hand, I did taste two very good session IPAs while I was in NYC this week: Carton's Boat Beer and SingleCut's Billy 18 Watt. The SingleCut, in particular, was excellent.

I was a really big fan of Zytho, so much that I reviewed it lol.

Really looking forward to Morticia. I tried it on tap at the brewery about 2 weeks ago, they said it was a "rough draft" (see what I did there?), but I thought it was a nicely balanced RIS with great head retention and lacing for a big beer. Being that they bottle conditioned it with maple syrup it makes me even more excited. Definitely getting a case if I can.
