Dan mentioned in the comments on this Instagram post (expand the comments under scarroll413) that they renovated the back building and plan to move the taproom there. No formal announcement has been made, so I'm assuming it's not happening anytime soon.

I do travel around NY almost once a week for work but unfortunately it is usually Mon-Wed, when almost every brewery upstate is closed. I have not had a chance to visit Drowned Lands but it is definitely on my list.

I did have a chance to visit Woodland Farm Brewery, Buried Acorn, and Meier Creek while up in Syracuse/Watertown for a wedding recently. The two beers I had at Woodland were solid, and the food was good for a quick pit stop after 7 hrs of driving. Everything I had on site at Buried Acorn was really good but man the cans did not hold up. Both IPAs I got were super astringent with the heart burn hop creep, and the kolsch also seemed bland in the can. I grabbed a bunch of farmhouse/sour bottles I have not yet opened. Meier Creek was really solid - the dark lager was a standout.

I have found much more success with BA bottles rather than their cans. I think that's their sweet spot.

Was up there this past weekend and he said he's hoping everything will be completed for this winter, but all depends on the contractor.

Speaking of taproom openings, anybody hear anything about Finback's LIC location?

Is Suarez mostly to go or do they have some draft options? Thinking of making the drive up on Friday. Also any good food options around the area?

they usually only have one beer on tap at a time since they closed the inside space. Really wish they still had the inside space - they usually had 4-6 beers on tap at any given time.

If you like pizza, I highly recommend Lucoli in Red Hook.

Their inside space was my favorite place to grab a beer in the entire state. Miss it greatly.

They mentioned that they're working on converting the back building into a new indoor space in their latest email, but it doesn't sound like it will be open until next year.

"The building in this photo - which sits across the parking lot from our brewery building - is about to undergo an epic transformation.

We've been (slowly) plotting to turn this into the future home of THE TAPROOM + SHOP, and just started the demo this past week.

Those of you who have known us since the start saw the epic transformation from the uninhabited big brick building into the warm and inviting brewery space.

We look forward to breathing life into this dilapidated structure, as well, and are so excited to share beers with you there in the new year."

Decided against driving up to Suarez but now I’m going to drive out to R+B… any lunch recs in the area?

They have a pizza truck in the back which is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pizza is really solid.

If you're looking for a brewery-centric day trip around the city, the Hudson Valley region about halfway up to Suarez has a lot of great stuff like Obercreek, Hudson Valley, and Industrial Arts. The drive would also probably be easier/nicer than getting out to Long Island.

Just adding this - check what dates these breweries are open. A lot of breweries in that area are closed Mon-Wed.

Yeah I’m leaving on Wed morning so that’s going to rule out a trip to the Hudson Valley

As for food near R+B, there’s not much in Copiague itself but you can drive 15-20 mins to Bay Shore which has tons of restaurants. I personally recommend Tululahs or Coastal Kitchen. If you’re limited on time, Lindenhurst is down the road and there are several restaurants on Wellwood Ave.

If you are driving in from the City, you can also make a pit stop in Rockville Centre which has a ton of great restaurants - I recommend Press 195, Nicks Pizza, Dirty Taco, Tum Thai, Mesita, Dario’s, Dodici, or Blue Moon.

Lindenhurst is one town to the east and Restoration is a favorite of ours. Local beer, good food and a portion of your check always goes to whatever charity they’re donating to that day. You also have The Lanterne if you’re into German food (a lot of good German beer too, lots of taps) and Hermanas if you like Mexican and cocktails. Bakuto is really good too if you like Ramen and noodle bowls and 27a is a nice local-local brewery that has like 8 taps and fresh made cocktails. They have food, but it’s more for fast eats and I recommend one of the other places for a real dinner. The BBQ place next to The Lanterne is supposed to be good too but I’ve never eaten there.

FYI for my bridge and tunnel homies, I grabbed some Heady and Focal at Threes Moynihan on my way home yesterday.
