I'm going to be in New York early October; any advice for good bars/bottle shops? I know there is a ton of stuff in NY that I can't get in Minnesota. Some that I'd like to check out if I can find them include:

    Russian River
    The Alchemist
    Cigar City
    Portsmouth
    Firestone
    Troegs
    Kern River
    Alesmith

Is Pliny around (on tap or in stores)?; does Heady Topper ever make it's way there (on tap or in stores)? Citra? Any special releases, events etc. around that time?

    Thanks!

For the most part, you can get all the regular Troegs, Firestone, Kern River (no Citra), and Alemith bottles in NYC. You can also probably find some Firestone 15 and Abacus around if you know where to look (Westchester, Long Island... will depend heavily on if you have access to a car).

We don't get Russian River or Portsmouth. You can go to Philly for Russian River sours but Portsmouth beers are only sold at the brewery in NH.

With The Alchemist, their Celia Saison just hit NYC a little while ago, but again, like Portsmouth, you won't find Heady Topper unless you head up to the brewery in VT.

Unfortunately, with NYC, as with almost any big city, you're unlikely to find anything "special" just lying on the shelves. Anything that's at all limited in any way disappears within about a day if not a couple of hours.

For a list of events, you can check beermenus.com and enter a zip code in the NYC area.

    Hope that helps.

I've seen some of their year-round stuff in Long Island and Westchester.

The reason I ask is because we don't distribute to New York. We actually don't distribute outside of CA because we have zero confidence in maintaining the quality of the end-product to the consumer, especially our hoppy beers, which is what we do best.

I'm not going to sit here and try to crack down on someone who is selling our beer under shady circumstances, but please understand that we highly discourage the purchase of our beer outside of our distribution area. We have zero quality control for this type of situation, our beer is not designed to travel across the country, and our reputation is our only marketing.

I know everyone is trying to get a hold of the hard to find stuff, but remember that many beers are perishable; just because you find our beer in a store that does not mean it is how we want you to enjoy it.

As always, you can contact me directly if you have any issues/concerns/questions.

    Cheers,
    Eric

I agree with you on all fronts. From what I've seen, we get 2 beers from you guys: Just Outstanding IPA and Class V stout. They're almost always on the shelves also which is why I didn't think it was all that outside of the ordinary.

Whoa, I'd love to get my hands on some Just Outstanding without having to send a box across the country. Can you BM me the store(s) where you usually see them?
