It's all about price price price .TG is coming in with King Sue for $24 or more a 4 pack. Absurd .hoof Hearted pours are a $1+ an oz per pour, 4 packs are $24+ if you can find them. I blame the distributors because these cans in their local markets are cheap .

Is the markup at the distributor level or the retail level? I mean it's probably both. Stores have to make a profit too, and the cost of rent and keeping your lights on in Decorah, Iowa is probably way less than here. I'm not saying $6-7/can is something I'm okay with, but it's also not an apples to apple kind of comparison.

It is excellent. Their selection is especially slim and curated with plenty of refrigeration!

The good people at Good Beer told me it was initially a test of the market... and it looks line we passed?

Even though I don’t work in Manhattan anymore, I still follow them on IG because it’s a great store with great people who work there and I saw the post with the Surly stuff. Todd the Axe Man is excellent. I would definitely pick it up if I saw it.

It's certainly been a refreshing change from most of what I drink!

No, it's a one-time drop in the New York market.
This year, Surly participated in an inaugural distribution program called: Brew Pipeline.
The folks at Brew Pipeline represent various brands, and they work directly with distributors in select markets to deliver occasional drops of beer that are pre-sold into accounts.
This model works because breweries don't have to worry about signing (very restrictive) distribution agreements in far afield markets, nor having full-time sales representatives. The partner distributors work on select accounts and pre-sell the beer in.

For NYC this year, we (Surly) sent Furious and Axe Man. I think we may be planning another release in the future with some other brands depending on the success of the first drop.

On LI, it feels like they all went to Trader Joes. Try the one nearest you. The one by me had a lot (and they practically don't mark up singles compared to beer stores). I thought it was an excellent beer. Dangerous beer too... it sneaks up on you fast.

Damn. Now I gotta find a Trader Joe’s. Thanks though.
Thanks for the info, kick a little out to Long Island...I’d definitely buy both.

Anyone see these new cans from “Free Thought” popping up in the area? Brewer and canned at GSB. Anyone have any intel?

Also, manager at Monarch ordered a case of Von Trapp Pilsner a few weeks ago at my request and it is now my absolute go-to pilsner now.

There’s a TJs about 10 mins from me in Oceanside but the parking lot is an absolute clusterfuck which can induce even the most strong-willed human being to have an anxiety attack, so I never go there. My girlfriend does go though and the food/produce options are legit. Looks like I may have to bend my rules to go look for the double.

Yeah that East Meadow one is a pain to get into the parking lot. The TJ in Plainview is much better.
Did they get the Von Trapp cans or bottles? I haven’t seen the cans on LI anywhere yet.

Bottles. Was hoping for cans but honestly was just so excited that it was in stock that it didn’t matter.

Does Von Trapp still bottle... and if so, do bottles still get to NY? I wonder if you might have gotten old stock. I was under the impression that any bottles in the area predate their switch to cans, but that could be incorrect info. If I remember correctly, Von Trapp doesn't date their product.

If the last run is in question, then there should be no issue with the bottle format...cans from here on out though -
