Haha, I’m pretty sure mentioning that store is like Gotham City Hall shining the bat signal in the nighttime sky.

Hey not that many supermarkets keeping up to date with every release. Prices aren't bad considering the rent is 200,000 a month

Oh, I question it, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper and more convenient than a 3-hour round trip subway ride to Brooklyn.

I wasn't digging at you. I just find it amazing that an IPA, no matter the quality or the equipment used to produce it, seem to factor up to this seemingly arbitrary price point which was trusted upon the beer consumers....and yet, the beers are less intriguing and expensive (per ounce) when served up in 6-pack/12 oz format.

I wouldn't say the pricing is arbitrary. $20.99 is actually not a terrible price these days. Many shops in the city are charging $6+/can for DIPAs.

How much is a pint supposed to cost around here? Last I checked it’s still more than 50% cheaper than if I were to go out...

I don't think that was a "fair response." @NewmansOwn - you don't like Food Emporium or some posts made on this site from people associated with it, but you've let that negatively influence your reactions to anybody mentioning them. People are allowed to mention that store. The last time I was there, my impression of their prices was the same as @beerwego 's. Some beers priced higher and some lower than average. Oddly so. (No, I can't quote you those prices from many months ago).

I was simply pointing out that in one sentence @beerwego said they refuse to patronize shops that sell at a criminal markup, and in another sentence mentions gouging. It just happens that the shop in question was food emporium...

OK. I thought you were being triggered. I think you can understand why I would think that. I thought @beerwego was clearly referring to trendier boutiques when he mentioned where he doesn't shop.

Visiting NYC for a week in january from Sweden, what are some bars/stores where I can get lots of country ticks at? I mainly miss countries in Caribbean/Central/South America/Pacific.
Also open for IP trades as I have some countries that may be odd to you.

    Edit: Staying in Midtown East

When I started reading your post, I made a snap judgement and thought “another of the same old same old,” but then your post ended up being exactly the opposite. I would normally encourage someone to follow their muse (for example, I’m the type who will still stick to beer when traveling in a famous wine region), but unfortunately, I can’t resist the urge to tell you to forget the country ticks and enjoy other beers the city has to offer - including imports. I feel ashamed for thinking it. You be you, even though it feels like a wasted opportunity for me. I don’t know where to direct you though. A Total Wine (which is a large chain store... but not in NYC) would probably be as close to perfect for you. NYC has various neighborhoods with concentrations of various cultures. It would help if you provided the top countries on your hit list.

What Caribbean countries are you missing? Miss Lilly’s is a Jamaican restaurant (there are a couple of locations) but I believe they had beer from multiple islands last time I was there.
