Going to be in Hudson NY next week but my best friend from high school lives in NYC and is meeting us for Thanksgiving. I'm trying to have him bring me a few bottles that I can't get in Arizona, wondering what the availability of the following is? What would be the best shop to send him to? He lives in Brooklyn, works in the city. 2012 BCBS Anything Allagash Anything Maine Brewing Anything Hair of the Dog Anything Prairie Artisan Ale Ithaca Flower Power Thanks!
You won't find any Prairie around here. However, the following shops are all solid: Good Beer Top Hops Beer Culture City Swiggers Ninth Ave Vintner Foodtown Harlem Any Whole Foods
I would add New Beer Distributors as a place to check out. I can say that Allagash, Maine Beer Co., and Flower Power are readily available.
Good call. I keep forgetting about this place for some reason. Could be that it looks like a dump from outside.
I haven't noticed Bourbon County anywhere lately. Maine and Allagash can be found at pretty much any trendy beer boutique in Brooklyn. Flower Power can be found at some supermarkets. Prairie is a no go. The best place for Hair of the Dog was/is American Beer Distributing on Court St in Brooklyn - but I don't know if they currently have any. I'd call them to see what they have.
Bourbon County is still available in a place in Rockland County called Route 59 Discount Beverage. Cash only.
perhaps it is because they are a warehouse with little to no temperature control, they don't rotate old product (wonder if that green tea IPA is still there...), they are known for shady practices such as breaking release date on westy 12 and marking the price up, and they registered an account on BA solely to swear at customers? that makes them pretty forgettable to me.
Honestly, if you're going to have a car up there, you should head into Westchester County - you can find almost anything there that you can find in NYC, if not a number of things that you can't. The DeCicco's chain is especially excellent up there. You should also try to visit Peekskill and Newburgh breweries when you're there, if you can.
