Going to be in NYC staying on 57th St and Madison Ave near Central Park next month. Only one night so I don't have alot of time. What's pubs/shops are in the area that I should be sure to check out? Thanks.
Pony Bar at 637 10th Avenue is about 1.5 miles from 57th and Madison All beers are $5 with most pours being 14oz. The more limited/higher ABV beers being 8oz
For good bottle shops, hot any whole foods for a decent selection. The really good ones are in the Bowery.
Hello. I went to NYC last year for the first time, and Rattle and Hum was my top pick. It is great. They are on BeerMenus.com for a preview of their offerings, as is Pony. Great food and fellow patrons. HAVE FUN! Thanks.
Hello. just went to BeerMenus.com. Looks like a Harpoon tap takeover at Pony. R and H wasn't listed, for some reason. Their website also looks to be under construction, but they look to be still in business. ???? Thanks. bottle Shops? Whole Foods- Tribeca. Thanks.
Don't bother with Rattle any more Check beermenus.com when you're in town and you'll know where to go Pony (HK or UES), Gingerman, and Blind Tiger are tops in Manhattan. Stag's Head is pretty close to 57th and Mad Closest good store to you is Whole Foods Columbus Circle Cheers
Whole Foods Tribeca has a really great selection. I'm in NJ but on days when I work out of World Financia I always make a swing through there.
Agreed. However when visiting the Whole Foods, ask if they have anything new in the back, they usually hold a stock in their inventory room which from time to time will have an impressive beer or two.
Yep. Last time it was BCBS for 6.99/bottle which, is not a great price in the grand scheme, but a price i'm willing to pay in (one of) the most expensive cities in the world. To answer the OP though, check out Jimmy's No. 43 as well. it's a straight shot down on the 6 train (to Astor Place) and their beer, although sometimes a tad pricey can have some really worthwhile options. Explore all the craft beer spots though. If you had to do a "one night to hit them all" kind of thing (which seems your case) I would do the following: Go to Pony Bar in Hells Kitchen walk across town to Rattle n Hum (i know, price gouging, but their bottle list is fairly priced and very extensive, as well as you getting necessary "sight seeing" done while walking through midtown) take 6 train down to Jimmy's no 43 (you can also hit Whole Foods Bowery on the way to Blind Tiger) walk west on Bleecker to Blind Tiger (pending it's not Saturday or Friday, Bleecker's the worst place on these days) stumble home If you have the resources, time, and alcohol tolerance to hit all, do so. If not, just check beermenus to see what looks nice that day. http://brewyorknewyork.com/ --> another resource to find NY based craft offerings and of course, hit New Beer Distributors.
Do yourself a favor and go to Birreria (http://eatalyny.com/eat/birreria) and/or Blind Tiger (http://www.blindtigeralehouse.com/). cheers
