NYC - Times Square/Penn Station area

    Sorry for the short notice, but I've briefly been looking at past threads on the NYC area. I'll be arriving in the NYC-Times Sq/Penn Station area tomorrow (Sat the 28th) for 2 days. Just looking for a place for a decent priced restaurant/brewpub with some good taps. I'm from the SoCal area so I am not looking for anything west coast style. Any Cigar City, Founders, Smuttynose, Bell's, etc. that I can't get in California would be cool. Most specifically IPA's/DIPA's. Thank you and again sorry for the short notice.

    downtown by me there is tophops which has a bunch of Founders stuff on tap. We don't get bell's or cigar city

    There are great restaurants with okay/decent tap lists, & great taps lists with okay/overrated food. Lots of little happy hour specials around if you look, but you'll rarely find any deals at any place remotely popular. All depends on how much time you want to spend traveling.

    Look for Peekskill taps, and you won't be disappointed. And yes: Flower Power.

    Go to the Upper East Side Pony Bar (there are two Pony Bars) if you want Founders.
    A word of caution, Beer Authority has a great tap list but it is very Times Squarey - don't expect nice ambience.
    Beer Culture is also nearby.

    rattle n hum and ginger man are both very close to where you'll be. ginger man is a lot better during the day before the PM takeover(yuppies during the week, bridge and tunnel-ers on the weekends)

    Thank for all the love here guys. I won't have much time (day n half) as I am attending a special concert for the release of the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto V which is part of the Film Festival going on there. Looks like the Vahalla is close to the venue and doable. Might check out one other during Sunday night.

    Thanks to all again. I made it to Beer Culture and Valhalla. Beer Culture was great to pick up beers from the cooler and take back to your hotel or just drink there. Flower Power was my favorite, then Smuttynose Finest Kind (which I had before in Cali). Got to try Evil Twin which I also liked. Valhalla had a nice feel to it. Not much in IPA's to select from. But a real cool vibe. Food sucked.
