And it's right next to the Brooklyn Crab, which might be the most kid-friendly bar in New York (mini golf, playground, etc.).

Emmetts on MacDougal St. has bourbon county year round, and the best deep dish pizza I've ever had!

Maybe jrnyc is just doing his part to cut down on the ridiculous number of strollers present at Threes on any given day. I salute him.

Berg'n in Crown Heights (Brooklyn) is a decent combo of food/beer/kid friendly (assuming day time) if you don't mind venturing there. It's prob only about 30 mins on subway from financial district. Bunch of trains stop nearby (2/3/4/5/A/C).

They tend to have Grimm/Other Half. And often HF. Probably pay a slight premium on canned/bottled stuff - but whatever, you're on holiday. It's a sort of large open beer hall type place. And there are four food vendors on premise (check website). Also, depending what train you take, you can walk past Covenhoven on way to/from train. They have a great selection of bottles/cans.

The Redhook/Hometown BBQ recommendation is a good shout. You won't really be able to nerd out on the beer front so much, but food makes it absolutely worth it.

Threes is good, but (especially if too cold to be out in the beer garden out back), unless you're there early it can often fill up quick, get loud, and not necessarily always be best place to bring kids.

I lived in Manhattan for five years and have been in Brooklyn for three. Have a five month old. In my experience the type of places you want to go to, tend to be more kid-friendly in Brooklyn so it's worth any perceived extra travel (and to be honest, from where you're staying, most of the BK places mentioned in this thread are going to be equally accessible to anywhere in manhattan north of the 40's).

    Enjoy!

He is traveling with a 5 year old, that is why I said too far. Big difference between a single beer geek without a kid going all over the city and a family with a 5 year old.

Back to the financial district. The three best places to get a good beer, not sure the degree of kid-friendliness, is the Growler Bits and Bites in a beautiful Dutch building on cobblestone street. Clinton Hall (has a flux capacitor) and Malt House (FIDI) on Maiden (chalkboard might frustratingly only contain Brewery or beer name, hardly both, but will have a local tap), ....expensive but good food and beer. The description of the local beer might be taped near the waiter station if the server/bartender doesn't know exactly what it is.

Both of these things are true!
Thanks for the tips everyone. Plan to hit Marta one night and probably get chinese or ramen the other night. Will hit Good Beer and WF Bowery for some bottles/growlers to take back home. Unfortunately wont have much time to hunt this time.

One other option is Lupulo on 29th and 6th. Portuguese food, solid draft and bottle lists, and kid friendly enough.

But as someone who has 2 young kids, it's hard to turn down pizza at Marta.

Full Disclousure: I do the beer buying for Lupulo.

Any ideas in the Lower East Side? Will be there this weekend with family - optimally something with HF or good selection of locals. Thanks!

One Mile House is my go-to for the LES. Top Hops and Fools Gold also have solid selections, though I'm not really into their vibes.
