Great time to be a beer lover in NYC. So many great new breweries have opened up recently:

    Transmitter
    Other Half
    Finback
    Flagship
    Singlecut
    Rockaway
    Big Alice
    Gun Hill

Saw that too. Given the limited hours of some of those places, it might be difficult to do them all in a weekend.... but that doesn't mean I'm not going to try.

Anyone been to Big Alice? I read about them recently and they seem very out there, but in a good way. Interested in checking them out.

Haven't gotten there or tasted their beer, but those who have report being entirely and completely impressed. Right now Other Half is leading the "best new NYC brewery" charge for me, but I think my friends who have been to B.A. would suggest it's in the running.

Big Alice is niche beer. They told me they are trying to play in the high end artisanal flavors/styles which corresponds to their small batch, $18/ bottle approach. Glad they are around, just not somewhere I plan to frequent. Other Half is leaps ahead of all others IMO.

Been to Big Alice several times & have their community beer-share deal. There aren't any straight forward beers. Everything has some kind of quirky ingredient - sometimes great & sometimes OK (IMO). Some of their barleywines were really good & a quad chocolate stout was excellent. They recently (last 4 months or so) started releasing "sours." The first one I had wasn't sour at all - but still not bad. Just picked up a White Fig White Sour from the share tonite. So we'll see how that goes.
Trying to hit Other Half this weekend.

Late night? Haha. I think the implication of the OP is that they're all worth a visit.

I've been to Other Half - awesome. Can't go wrong with any of their beers (except Lembeek), but Hop Showers is my personal favourite. And I've had some solid offerings from Finback and Singlecut as well. Haven't tried the others....yet

Other Half is making IPAs on par with Vermont right now. Absolutely world class. They'll be releasing barrel-aged bottles and sours soon too...

On top of other half, I will say every Singlecut beer I've had has been really good. I bought a growler of Kim from whole foods bowery on my way home from picking up my MC last week.

Yeah dude u sound like Yoda. Must have been drinking something good last night huh?

Checked out Finback a couple of weekends ago. Not bad. Although, my favorite was Starchild a sour ale and I don't like sours. Doesn't say much about what they had there, just didn't do it for me. Old timer there was raving about Puffin, a smoked porter that is supposed to be excellent. But they were brewing more and didn't have it. BQE is another good one but they didn't have it on tap either. They were barrel aging some tho. After all the talk on the Other Half thread, I now have to get over there. Sounds like the IPAs are awesome.

Out of those 8 I have tried Transmitter, Other Half, Finback, Flagship, and Singlecut. All of them have been good.

I haven't tried most of them. Only singlecut and other half. Are the others in bars?

I would say so atm. Besides Other Half, I've only tried the others on tap in random bars.

Visited Big Alice this past Friday, It happened to be an anniversary celebration for them and i was able to snag a bottle of batches 101 (Hickory & Soft Maple Aged Smoked Ale) and 103 (Hot Pepper Oatmeal IPA) along with some free food and a chat wit the brewers. Cool dudes. They seem to be doing things with teas instead of going the coffee route i was told. Looking forward to trying these too. Too bad theres no cellaring info for these (naturally ill be consuming the IPA sooner than later). Very happy about whats happening in NYC and craft beer. I also saw theres a brewery called "Harlem Brewery". Sounds interesting. hopefully this week ill be able to hit up Transmitter.

Flagship is pretty bad IMO. A decent wit, a subpar summer ale, a terrible APA and an English mild that drinks like an irish dry stout.

    Meh X 100
