I wouldn't disagree. I was thinking low ABV porter myself. Tasty though.

    There's also:
(off the top of my head)

    Bridge and Tunnel
    City Island
    Queens Brewery
    Bronx Brewery

and places like Bierkraft are brewing their own now as well

I've tried at least a little something from all of 'em except Big Alice and Bierkraft.
Greenpoint Beer & Ale (Dirck), Singlecut, and Other Half are the ones I find myself revisiting or wanting to.
Someone should trademark "Manhattan Brewery" before it gets taken. Only a matter of time.

Well, 8 years, anyway  - given that both Schaefer and Rheingold closed their Brooklyn breweries in 1976.

Even if the Wiki "author" meant the first new brewery in Manhattan, it had been less than two decades since Ruppert closed their upper east side brewery in 1965.

Didn't New Amsterdam pre-date Manhattan Brewing? Was on Eleventh Ave. in the twenties if I can pierce the heavy memory cloud...

The New Amsterdam brand predated Manhattan - contract-brewed at F. X. Matt, hitting the market in the fall of 1982. But their brewery on the westside (yeah, 610 W. 26th St., fronting on 235 Eleventh) didn't open until 1985.

Here's a good trivia note - the next year, '86, they - Old New York Brewing Co. - were listed as the #1 "Micro Brewery" (as they wrote it at the time in Brewers Digest) in the US with 13,000 bbl., nearly twice as large as #2 Sierra Nevada and #3 Red Hook.

Manhattan was open and brewing by November, '84, and was #7 on that same 1986 list of US "Micro Breweries" - making NY State easily the #1 "Micro Brewery" state by production with about 1/3 of the total barrelage (including #4 Newman's in Albany).

They are only opened on Friday's right?

I'd love to check them out when I head to Transmitter/AleWife one of these weekends, but don't think I can ever make their current Friday window.
