Hello all. I'm currently deployed in Afghanistan with the Department of Defense for a year. One of the great things about this deployment is we get to take 3 R&R trips anywhere in the world and the government pays for the trip. SO with that being said, I am planning a trip to New Zealand in January or February for a couple weeks. I'm hoping to visit some hop farms while I'm there. So I'm trying to get some information on New Zealand hop farms so I can do some research before my trip and ideally even get in touch with a hop farmer from there. Does anyone have any leads or any suggestions? I'm open to any suggestions. Thank you!!!
Hi mate, I don't have any hop specific contacts, however here is the link to New Zealand Hops contact page. They're based out of Nelson at the top of NZ's south island. http://www.nzhops.co.nz/contact-us
Thanks for the response. I am planning to go to South Island so I will DEFINITELY have to go check this place out. Thanks!
It's a beautiful part of the country and you'll find some other NZ topics here with suggestions of beers & bars to visit in the same area.
SO I got the details of my trip in the works. I am going to NZ in mid-February for 11 days, flying into Christchurch. I still have about 50 days to work out the logistics, but I am planning to take the train from Christchurch to Greymouth and then rent a car and drive to Nelson. Looking for anyone who can give me some tips on where I should go and what to drink while I'm there. I DEFINITELY want to visit a hop farm or two while I'm there. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
UPDATE! I just got back from New Zealand last week and all I can say is WOW! Such an amazing place. I was lucky enough to meet up with a guy from New Zealand hops while I was in Nelson and he took me on a tour of 3 or 4 of the hop farms up there. Acres and acres and ACRES of Nelson Sauvin hops. Also visited at least 5 or 6 breweries in the Nelson/Motueka area. Highly recommended!
