O2 if pitching on a previous yeast bed?

    I'm curious if aerating with O2 is necessary if I'm pitching on top of another beer's yeast bed. I know this isn't preferred but I'm trying it anyway. Isn't the O2 for the growth stage of the yeast? I should have more than enough yeast this way though.
