    Hi folks,

Last year around this time, we got some oak-aged Jai Alai from Cigar City. I really loved what the oak did to the IPA. Looks like it's not coming til January this year. I was wondering if there were Colorado oak- or wood-aged beers (that aren't sour/stouts) that I ought to check out. Rumble is another favorite, but I don't want to limit this to IPAs only.

Boulder used to do an Irish red ale that was oak aged (maybe it was twisted pine?). I'm not sure if it still lives. New Belgium has an oak spiral, which I've never had.

There are several Innis and Gunn beers out there. Non-stouts makes it rough, otherwise the oak aged yetis are the kings.

Rumble wasn't brewed this year :persevere: The fact that White Oak was delayed hasn't helped. That beer was at least a pretty close approximation.
NB's Oakspire tastes more like oak than Bourbon, so I really like that one. Vanilla OA Yeti has so little vanilla that it might as well just be normal 'ol OA Yeti to me.
DFH Burton Baton and Palo Santo scratch the itch. Tommyknocker Legend, too.

Other than than those, I'd also be very curious.

Yeah, the Vanilla Oak Aged Yeti was very good and drinkable but the vanilla was sure hard to pull out.

Yeah, I really don't understand why they released that one as-is. It's absolutely a good beer, but they're wasting money on whatever vanilla they added and disappointing people at the same time. Just bring back normal OA Yeti as a seasonal and be done with it.

Cerebral's foeder lagers are pretty good.

Bierstadt has a second Saturday Fässer. It's not every month, but it's a wood keg, filled out of the lagering tank and gravity poured.

Not quite the same, but still pretty awesome. I've done some head to heads with that serving style in Munich and they definitely taste different.

They are awesome. If I lived closer I would be there frequently.

I think Three Barrel makes some oak aged beers. Trucha Grande?
And Crooked Stave has some wild beers I wouldn't call "sour"
Epic has some (Smoked and Oaked)

Want to also mention Purpose Brewing in Fort Collins. Almost all of it is taproom only, but they're doing some very interesting things up there

I love this beer! It's another one that prompted this thread.

That's a good one. I've been up there shortly after they opened and did like their stuff, but some of it was a little out there for me. Like they had a "tostada" beer I want to say. Tasted like corn and lime. Interesting, but a miss for me.

That reminds me that cellar west also belongs here with what they're doing oakwise. Casey obviously does great stuff with oak as well.

I'll have to try these as well. Thanks for the input.

I also thought Bull & Bush may be a good place to look. A brief untappd search came up with Woody Pils (which appears to be out now) and Barrel Man Beer, both of which I'll keep an eye out for.

Also I dig this oak-aged lager trend. I'm heading up to Cerebral to try some soon. I think (?) that some of Cellar Wests lagers are foeder aged as well.

Anyone else in on this trend? Is this a traditional way of lagering? I haven't heard much about this before 2019 tbh.

It's been a long time since I have noticed anything of the ilk but Odell used to do a ton of oak aged stuff, including their Woodcut Series.

They did release 180 Shilling relatively recently, which I remember being aged on oak. I was *very* excited to try it but in the end it had a slightly harsh bitter/burnt taste to it IMO. Could have just been a bad bottle, not sure.

Yeah, Woody Pils is out right now. It's unlike just about any beer I can think of. I guess it's closest to Russian River's wine barrel sours...only it's more lightly tart than actually sour.
Their Anniversary beer this year is also kinda similar, although it's an export stout base rather than a pils. Barrel Man Beer is probably long gone, though. It was from a couple years ago.

Forgot about Smoked and Oaked. I really like that one! I'd never even heard of Three Barrel...then I looked and saw where they are. I still need to make it down that way one of these days. I used to visit the western and SW portions of CO pretty often, but have never been in that south central region. Lots of hidden gems down there, but everything is pretty spread out.

So they actually recently released an oak-BA imperial IPA in the Woodcut Series! (Thanks for reminding me of this series -- it got me to keep an eye out.) It was pretty much exactly what I was looking for! It was huuuuuge and probably too sweet for my tastes, but the oak character is phenomenal.

Also found this one this past weekend, and I co-sign your statement. A super unique beer. I really love it and will definitely try to get down to B&B when they have it around. It's still recognizable as a pilsner(ish) base -- although it's almost 7% iirc -- but has a tartness that comes through from the wine barrel. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

Thanks for all your input folks! I will continue to update this thread with any oaky gems that I come across, and I hope y'all let me know if you see anything good out in the wild!

By the way, if you happen to see Foedre Friends on the shelves, grab it. It's a mega-collab between Almanac, Cerebral, and a ton of other breweries. It's an oak-aged lager that got an incredibly soft mouthfeel and this awesome funky flavor.

Totally off topic, but burnt toast from 3 barrel may be the best brown in the state.
