IMO the rest of their lineup is garbage... always seemed weird to me that a barley wine is what they nail.

They're an odd one. I've never been, but I have friends that swear their old Edwards location is/was amazing. When they first started selling cans in Denver I thought the line-up was pretty good. Then all of a sudden (about a week later), I noticed all my cans were flat. I looked at some more cans at the store and you could push the sides in on all of them. That seemed to be an issue for 7-8 months. They did eventually fix that problem, but at the same time all of their beers tasted like they had been re-formulated, too. The Barleywine and the strong ESB are the beers that seemed to taste the same. That's been a long time ago, but everything I've had since has tasted different and pretty underwhelming...except those two.

I fully expected some shenanigans when I grabbed it, now it's a staple. Hog heaven is great as well while we are on the hoppy barleywine topic.

Keep an eye out for Bull n Bush's Make America Grape Again. Just saw it pop up on Grapevine's page, and it is a belgian strong dark ale aged in syrah french oak barrels with syrah grapes and wine yeast. Sounds a bit "out there" but I'm eager to give it a shot.

Also, been on the prowl for Cigar City White Oak Jai Alai. It has been released for probably about a month now, but it doesn't appear to have made it to Colorado at all. Seems weird to me, especially given the Canarchy connection to Colorado. I know distro has hit states like PA and TX weeks ago.

I hope that it gets here eventually, and that this doesn't signal bad things for getting CC's wood-aged stuff. Looks like they're slated to release a Spanish Cedar Aged Jai Alai in July and I would love to see that on the shelves here: https://www.cigarcitybrewing.com/beer/spanish-cedar-jai-alai/

Encountered something unique at my local store. A beer called Liquid Idiom that's a collab between Fiction and Wiley Roots. It's a NEIPA but used a hop mixture called "provoak" that mixes toasted white oak powder with the hops. Never heard of anything like it before. I would say the taste is pretty subtle. Not sure I picked up much of the oak except maybe a little woody aftertaste. But the beer itself was great.

BA Lugene is back, which I’m stoked about. I actually preferred it when it was non BA, but what are you gonna do?
I just checked Odell’s calendar to see the exact timeframe it’s available and nowhere on the website can I find it listed, including the calendar.
Anyone know how much longer it should be around? Not looking to hoard, but would like another couple before it’s out of season.

Avery Night Warden is pretty good, and a solid deal in a sixer.

I don't think we got White Oak Jai Alai this year. To my knowledge the OB tasting room in Boulder has never had it. They're CC central in Colorado, so it's tough to imagine them not getting something we're supposed to receive.

Hopefully we get the cedar. I tried that a long, long time ago and really enjoyed it.

I remember having it at GABF years ago and thinking it was pretty damn tasty. Really hoping the cedar makes it here.

Plenty of beechwood aged beers on shelves, brewed in Fort Collins

    :grin::grin::grin::grin:

The success of Bud just shows how huge the demand is for wood-aged beers, right? Goes to show that Rumble and White Oak JA should be on every tap line year-round.

I know. I'm super bummed about missing out on White Oak again, now it's been about two years since we've seen it. But I'm hoping it is just a quick of scheduling coupled with the difficulties of distribution in the time of Covid. Most breweries seem to have figured out all their distro, but White Oak came out right as the first wave was hitting in full force. So I have my fingers crossed for Spanish Cedar making it after all.

    A few oak-aged updates:

    (1) Woody Pils from Bull & Bush is back out and is one of my favorite beers out there. It's so unique, and the hops and funky/wine-y barrel mix so well. Definitely give it a taste.

    (2) Cellar West will be releasing Make Hay this weekend, which is a phenomenal Oak-aged saison. I think it brought home a medal from GABF a couple years back and is one of my favorites from this incredible Lafayette brewery. Check it out if you get a chance!

    (3) Doesn't look like we're gonna see the Spanish Cedar Jai Alai, either. Dunno if Cigar City has just decided to reduce their footprint in the state or what, but I'm super bummed about it.

    (4) Saw a couple of other oak-aged beers on sale at Grapevine - Lithology from Cerebral (a 3.5% saison) and Black Beary Sour from 105 West (6% fruited sour). Lemme know if you've tried these or any other good wood-aged beers lately!

    Cheers!

Anyone know if Napa Smith still makes it Denver or NoCo? I used to love Hopageddon, but I bet I haven't had one in 7-8 years.

For you barleywine fans, you're going to want to get your hands on a bottle of Stacked by Timnath Beerwerks.

I haven't heard of it before, nor have I seen it around.

This looks amazing! Thanks for the heads up. Do you know if you can find it in the Denver metro area?

Brewery only. Worth the drive. They make some really nice stuff. And then go crush lagers at Zwei for a great one-two punch.

That's probably all I need to know :stuck_out_tongue:
Their bottles were pretty common in CO a decade or so ago. Hopageddon was an oak aged DIPA. It was kinda like Great Divide's 15th anniversary, but way cheaper.

Can anyone tell me what the deal with Timnath is? I don't mean that in a negative way - I just feel like I should know something about them, but I don't. I see their name popping up a lot lately.

    Tinmath fucks.
They really hit the ground running imo with a nice variety of well-executed styles... admittedly haven’t been there in a minute, but we’re planning a trip to Costco this weekend so we might have to pop in for a tasty boi or three.. they have a really nice space too
