I went to a restaurant this weekend and tried the Omnipollo Fatamorgana. I saw Oatmeal IPA on the menu and had to try it. I was really impressed. It has the best nose I think I've ever smelled on an Imperial IPA. The mouthfeel and taste was awesome as well. Does anybody know anything similar that may be a little bit easier to find?

Not necessarily easier to find, but I believe Surly Abrasive is brewed with "malted oats," which should be pretty similar.

I'd call several of Surly's hoppy beers Oatmeal IPAs - they use lots of Golden Naked Oats and/or flaked oats in their grist - adds to their classic mouthfeel.

Yeah that's all "oatmeal [beer name]" means, is that it was brewed with some oats. Malted or otherwise.

I kinda knew what to expect when ordering, but it was so good and something I've never had. The Surly beers aren't distributed to Indiana, but I'm sure it wouldn't be impossible to get ahold of. Thanks!

If you make the trek to Chicago, you can get Abrasive when it's in season.

If you're ever in the Philadelphia area, on top of being ridiculously good regardless of the malt bill, Tired Hands uses oats in a fair amount of their beers. I love the body that they get, really complements the juiciness their IPAs often exhibit.

Surly Abrasive technically classifies as an oatmeal IPA, I think. It has an awesome mouthfeel.

Gone real fast. At least everywhere I know in a 5 mile radius.

Agreed. A couple big stores got bigger allotments, but all of my local suburban stores got 1 case and I know my usual spot sold through their case in 1 day, at 1 can per customer.

Yeah I get pretty much all distro'd Burn Em stuff. I've had a lot of it, but still not this one. Sounds excellent though.

Fatamorgana is indeed awesome. Had no idea it was an Oatmeal IPA. Though not technically an IPA, I recently had Newlin's Belgian Pale Ale by Haw River which apparently was of the oatmeal variety. It was excellent and had enough hop character that it could pass for an IPA IMO.

Last April I was in Chicago after Dark Lord Day, and I found it in the cooler at Go! in Logan Square. Perhaps I was there on just the right day.

I was in AZ in November. I asked around everywhere for good local brews and NOBODY had an answer. Glad to know that there is some awesome stuff down there when I go again! Thanks!
