Every time I navigate from my current session beer to the next, I mention how great of a session beer it is, and my girlfriend insists that it is, in reality, an obsession beer. And I suppose its true. When I'm drinking a particular beer for a while, I think I tend to fixate on it, or the brewery that makes it. There have been a few that for awhile were the "pinnacle of beer!". I just wonder if anybody else drinks in brand/brewery cycles. I know style cycles are common, if not necessary, to really appreciate the subtle traits of a specific beer, but what about brand/brewery fidelity? Or was the beer I just finished that "one too many" beer you mention after a night of excess.
Coming down off a Bell's cycle now. 2H, Best Brown, Mars, Black Note, Expedition, and Oracle. My horizons are reopening...
I'm on a hard Jester King kick currently. Before that it was La Cumbre. I'm always on a New Glarus kick, though.
Not really. More like style cycles, randomly branching off into related or similar styles (brown ales, then a dunkel, leading into dopplebocks, then old ales, then back to brown ales... ).
Great title! I always end up drinking stronger beers around family and friends, and getting (ob)sessed about SNPA and such nonsense every other time!
I don't drink exclusively Terrapin beers by any means but any time a new Terrapin beer comes out, I HAVE to get it. No reason really that I can think of either. Just one that I always look for.
I had my run with Sculpin...a stint at the Betty Ford clinic, and the fact that I can't get it in South Carolina anymore, cured that
Absolutely! If I find a beer by a particular brewer that I like, I will definitely tryall of their offerings in the styles I like that they offer. And I'll do the same for styles. If I find a particular beer that I like, I will check BA's "most popular beers" in that style and try those as well.
I am obsessed with IPAs. Not one in particular, but the style. It's been like this for years and I don't foresee a change anytime soon. A few weeks ago I bought two cases of 6 day old Dirtwolf and am nearing the end of the first case. My current go to.
Right now I'm kinda obsessed with stouts. Everyone loves FBS but I finally tried Saugatuck's Neopolitan milk stout and thought it was really interesting and super tasty. I'm excited to try Wake Up Dead and Wake Up Dead Nitro side by side and see which I enjoy more hopefully in the next couple nights
Tis the season for dopplebocks. Korbinian, Optimator and Andechs are going to keep me busy for a while.
Seems to be more of a style cycle than any particular beer or brewery - for some reason my dial defaults to stout-mode. IPA switch is broken and I'm in no hurry to fix it... if at all.
