Just thought I would drop a thread for any OBF nuggets people run across over the next few days. Best beers, beers to AVOID, food at the fest, and any other thoughts and musings/

Printed out the beer list today. Looks heavy on the berliner weisse (not my favorite style) but otherwise the list looks much better than last years. I can say there are at least 25 beers I will want to have.

As usual Im going tomorrow and avoiding the weekend at all costs. Going to be 90 degrees Thursday and Friday :slight_frown:

I hear Shiga Kogen beers will be there? I've been really impressed with their offerings in Japan, so I'd say check them out.

Last night I was commenting to my wife about all the goses/berliner weisses/session IPAs in the list. After further review, we easily found a couple dozen beers we want to try. We'll be there tomorrow night.

Me too. Circled all the "must try" beers on the list, and sure enuogh, there was close to 30 of them. Like vurt, I'll be stopping by to sample the victuals right after work tomorrow.

Just went by the fest during my afternoon run. Good size crowd for a Wednesday, though waits in line didn't look too bad. Still, this is easily the largest afternoon crowd I've ever seen for a Wednesday.

I've never been, but I just can't talk myself into going after hearing all of the stories about how crowded it always is. Maybe a good time for me to visit some other spots that are typically very busy that might be a bit calmer due to the fest going on.

It's really not that bad on a week night. I usually go on Thursdays and have never waited in a line.

The Festival was surprisingly crowded last night when I got there around 7:00, but the crowds subsided a lot by 8:00.

High Desert Diesel from Sunriver was my favorite of the half dozen beers I tried last night. Gigantic's Le Petit Bâtard Abeille was also good.

Licensed to Kill IPA from Rusty Truck was not good.

I'm going back tonight to volunteer at the Brews for New Avenues tent between 8:00 and 9:00. If you're at the Festival, stop by and say Hey.

Only tried beers from trailers on the right (as you're facing the fest from Naito), and will focus on the left side tonight.

Anyway, the beers that impressed me the most, were:

    Buoy's Dragonweisse
Good Life Road to Helles (great mouthfeel)
New Hollands Dragon Milk Reserve (Mexican spice cake)
    Iwate Kura Beer
Old Market Weizen it Cloudy (one of the better weizens I've had in some time)

I also thought the beers from Kogan were pretty decent, and I really liked the weizenbock and DIPA they brought. Also, the hefeweizen from August Schell was surprisingly decent as well (I confess I generally have pretty low expectations from the makers of Grain Belt).

Biggest lines appeared to be for New Holland, Drake's Foraging Racoon, the Nadia Kali, Kermit the hop, and the pulp fusion blood orange IPA. In general, there seemed to be fairly long lines for the IPA's and DIPA's. That being said, line fluctuation was common. There were only 3 or 4 people in line when I got my taste of New Holland stout, but 15 or 20 minutes later the line had swelled to nearly 50. Initially, there were more than 20 people in line to try the foraging raccoon, but a half hour later there was no one at all in line. Also, there were times when the line to use the water rinse station was close to 20 long, but if you simply walked over to the station farther south, there would be no one in line. Go figure.

Despite the sizeable crowd, as usual, I had a very good time. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood, and I saw virtually no drunken behavior. Can't wait to stop by again tonight.

Are y'all on the west side seeing New Holland beer in stores, or is it special to the OBF?

went last night. A few lines for New Holland Dragons Milk Mexican Spice cake and Melvin 2x4. worth the wait, both of those were excellent.

I liked the international tent selection as well.

Temp was perfect, no d-bag behavior, and I was able to try 15-20 beers that were all very good. not sure if I will go back again given the crowd size will surely ramp up over the next few days and it is going to be hot as hell

In the past it seemed Wednesday was busier than Thursday, I think a lot of people want to be there on day 1, could be my imagination though. Appreciate all the reviews so far, going tonight.

They only received 20 kegs of 2x4, so they're running 4-5/day in order to have it available each day. Yesterday they ran out at around 4:30 or so.
