Any bars in Ocean City, MD serve anything decent? Haven't been there in a few years. Heading down 5/18-5/21 for a bachelor party. Any help is appreciated.

Everyone always says no, so I assume it must be true. I go to this place when I'm in town, but primarily for wine. However, they do have a few craft selections as well.

Not sure how adventurous you are, but the new (relatively) Evolution brewing public house is just up the street in Salisbury a bit. Otherwise, there's the new (relatively) Burley Oak brewing company in Berlin, and that's very near by. I don't know anything about their beers, but they have a nice website and the beers there sound intriguing.

    Good luck!

Not that adventurous. Was just wondering if there was anywhere in Ocean City where I can get something besides heineken and jager bombs. But thanks for the suggestion!

I usually just go to Pickles Pub, it is on 8th and Philadelphia. When I was down there end of last year they had Goose Island 312, Evolution ESB, Troegs Hopback and Pale, etc. It is a decent sized bar with plenty of parking across the street. Definitely the best I have found in OC so far.

Also found a pretty decent selection at Fat Daddy's 82nd street location. I got a Maui CoConut porter with my pizza and they had a few other solid offerings as well.

If you go to Rehobeth or Dewey you'll have better luck. Zoggs new beer guy is really making into a good spot for some brews

I highly recommend taking a trip out to Burley Oak, it's only about 15 minutes across bridge and well worth it. I was there a few weeks ago and had a great time. They have pretty much everyone of their beers on tap and sell samplers so you can try what you'd like. Prices are very reasonable and the bar is a very relax and friendly atmosphere.

Keep in mind though they do not serve food, though you can bring in your own.

New tap house in the 45th St. Village boasts (I believe) 45 or 48 taps, supposedly all craft. I have not been in yet as they have only been open on weekends but it did pull a full page article recently in the Salisbury paper. Burley Oak is well worth the short trip out to Berlin. Salisbury is 35 minutes-maybe you can stop there on your way back from whence you came.

Was down there in April and went to Fager's Island and they had a whole bunch of Evolution taps in the 'concert stage' area (if that's what you call it). Was drinking Lot 3's all night. Some other good selections too. This is a huge party spot in the summer though so its not really somewhere to chill and have some good beer. Could be ok during the day. Offseason was nice though.

When I was there recently I checked out this place for lunch. The name Taphouse is deceiving. They do have a number of taps probably more like 20ish at the main bar, but the majority are not craft. They have other taps at their deck bar, but this are BMC. Of the craft stuff they had it was an okay mix of mainly local offerings (DFH, Burley, Evolution, Eastern Shore Brewing).

Food was okay, their are a lot better options before this one, but the view is nice.

From my very limited experiance I would say no. Went last year for a bachelors party and had a better time than I thought. But good beer and food is limited. Just bring a bunch of good beer with you to drink during the day. And then go to Secrets at night and drink the crap they have on draft. At that point it should not matter what you are drinking anyway.

From the way it sounds the Evolution Brewing public house would be the only place I would go out of my way for. And thats only if the rest of the people going are into craft beer. If not I would just relax and not worry about running all over the place just to be disapointed when 60 Min is your best option if lucky.

Evolution #3 IPA is excellent, widely available on tap. DFH is all over as well. Fagars has a great selection of bottles and cans, ask to see the beer menu.

Good to know-glad someone could chime in on this. I had thought it all might be a front. Still it sounds like a start and compared to what else is in town, may turn into something decent.

You got some good suggestions, but I'll try to organize for you:

    1. Liquid Assets 94th St.-Pros: Awesome bottle selection probably the best until you hit places in Rehoboth and the markup is still at off premise prices so big guys aren't breaking your bank Cons: No Draft
    2. Tugos RT 611 West OC- Pros: A bunch of good draft selections, these guys listen to the smart reps and keep solid beers rotating Cons: Sub Shop style food although that might not be a problem for bachelor weekend, the guys on staff aren't huge beer dorks so know what you're looking for
    3. 45th St. Taphouse: Pros: Ton of draft Cons: From what I hear it's a lot of macro stuff with no one there really on top of their beer knowledge so selection is lacking, probably no bottle list
    4. Pickles Pub 8th st.- Pros: Good draft selection Cons: This is a local party spot, no bottle list

The biggest draw back with this area is that craft beer is popular so a lot of bar owners are trying to cash in. Some are doing it right and some aren't. If you want a really good experience get up to Henlopen City Oyster House in Rehoboth Beach. They sit right around the corner from DFH and could hold it's own in NY, Philly, and Baltimore as a destination for food and drink. Rotating drafts, one cask on at all times, and a healthy selection of bottles to choose from.

Definitely check out the new Evolution Public House in Salisbury if you can it's pretty rad, and come check out Burley Oak. I'm behind the bar in the tasting room at Burley and it's an easy 15min trip west of OC. We have probably about 10 beers on tap at any given time and tours go off Saturdays @ 3pm.

Thats funny about the 45th St Tap House as the recent article in the Salisbury paper really made it out they were a beer destination. Typical for the area.

Glad I found this thread...we're going to OC this summer and this saved me a ton of research. By the look of things, girlfriend and I will definitely get lunch at DFH's restaurant, and then maybe just buy some bottles from a few places to enjoy back at the hotel instead of trying our luck in local bars; although they're an option too if Evolution, DFH, Burley and other locals are abundant. We'll survive!
