I have been spending some time down that way lately and I can say first hand that the O.C. has finally got some of it's "shit" together when it comes to good beer. Liquid Assets at 94 has some nice stuff and tasty food. 45th Street Taphouse has 44 taps as of now and is looking to open up a bigger bar right next to them and put on even more. I had no problem with the taplist last Sat. cause I was drinking Blue Mountain Local Species on tap. Burly Oak is 15 minutes out and was kicking beer ass with a killer lineup that night. Is it Center City Philly yet? No, but it's a hell of a lot better that it ever was.

    I completely agree, northside.

45th Street Taphouse is probably the best beer bar on Coastal Highway there. Liquid Assets has a rather impressive bottle selection for the area, too. Also, Anthony's had a few bottles scattered throughout I found worthwhile. Burley Oak has really stepped up their game, too. OCMD is usually a destination I hit once or twice a year and I'm glad to see they're getting better!

I was at 45th st Taphouse a few weeks ago and it was much improved over the summer before.

Agreed. I was there last summer in July, and just recently was there last month this April. The draft list drastically improved and they added more taps, too. A win-win in my book.

Lazy Lizard Taphouse - not yet opened. ShoreBilly - Not yet opened. 45th Street - not bad. Pickles on 8th - Nice. I was talking to one local beer deistributor and they called Pizza Tugos Taphouse in WestOC "overwhelming." Two walls worth. Tastings available. Go. Oh, and Burley Oak? Stop crying about the short 8 mile trek and DO IT! You won't regret it! Awesome brewery! Big BIG Beers!

Pizza Tugos across the bridge is quite good, I always forget to mention them. And yes, hit Burley Oak while you're already cruising out 50.

Burley Oak is definitely worth the stop. But if you can't make the drive, you can find their beer on tap at a few OC bars. I know that the Frog Bar in the inlet has a dedicated Burley Oak tap.

FYI be forewarned..even if you are in a regular type OC kind of joint and find a decent beer the prices can be INSANE as to quote the former Crazy Eddie in NJ. I was in Buxy's in OC and had a Burley Oak Rude Boy-it was $8.50 a pint. That is simply taking advantage of a situation. I hate to have to ask "how much is a pint of brand X" but it may be coming to that.

Just back from my first (and last) weekend in OC. Definitely recommend Burley Oak. We stopped there on our way to the beach, did some tasting and picked up a growler. The Rude Boy definitely turned some heads of the Rolling Rock drinking guys we were sharing our condo with.

Didn't really hit a ton of bars. The Greene Turtle at around 118th st had Troegs Sunshine Pils, 60 minute, Fat Tire, etc. Nothing to write home about. The Shark on the Harbor restaurant had a respectable selection - stuff from Burley, Evolution, Dogfish, etc.

So, what's new from last year? Anything? Did the Lazy Lizard Brew Pub, as they called it in one article, end up opening?

I have not been there nor had their beer, but I do know they opened. Also, I saw can's of their beer at one store in MD (perfect pour).

the new Abbey Burger in OC was good last summer.
    it's on 126th.
the guy in charge of ordering quit or got fired right as they were opening so i was worried about it but everything was fine.

best beer selection i've seen in OCMD however i suggest avoiding the simply aj 10 burger if you want to do anything for the rest of the day/night. i ended up in a food coma for 3 hours while my girlfriend drank all my union cans on the balcony.

I'm going to swing by Burley Oak this summer while I'm down there. Been wanting to try some of their brews. The one brewery in MD that has my interest more than any other right now.

Yes. It feels so dirty inside (I don't know I just get a weird vibe, dirty isn't the right word, not as in disgusting but I don't know what else to use there, maybe weird is right) It feels like a shut down restaurant with a bar in the middle....this was when I went in October...so I don't know if they fixed it up a bit. The nachos that my father in law and his buddies split. We didn't eat other than that. The beer was was alright, nothing great though.

Had their one house beer, and don't even remember what it was. Then we left. Must have been good, right?

Update...Sometime in May, Ocean City Brewing Company brewpub opening on 56th. 45th Street Taphouse opening it's own brewery, Assawoman Brewing soon to come. Shorebilly Brewing is now Backshore Brewing (trademark battle) complete with new equipment and a new Master Brewer...some good stuff! Seacrets now has it's own house beer...Seacrets Tropicale, sold on tap and in six's. Made by Evo Craft Brewery. Not a medal winner, but fair to middlin'.

Some cool taphouses: JC's Northside Pub - 127th. The Abbey Burger Bistro on 126th and bayside. Ropewalk in Fenwick Island, DE.

    Yes, I'm a Local!

JC's Northside is my go to spot (I stay at 130th every year). Good selection, never crowded. Pickles is good if you need a beer off the boardwalk. Fagers Island always has some decent craft selections.

Burley Oak is a must stop.
