Today I found some Left Hand Imperial Stout at a Publix in AL with a bottle date of 06/24/08. The beer held up surprisingly well with much less oxidation than I initially expected. Beyond this beer being over 4 years old, AL did not pass legislation to allow the sale of >6% beers in the state until mid-early 2009, so this beer had to have been approx. 1 yr. old when it first hit the shelf. Does anyone else have any instances of finding unexpected beers in unexpected places?
A mom and pop liquor store in Texas City, TX has about 5 bottles of Fat Tire with a fresh by date of 2004 sitting on the shelf, they have no other craft beer in the whole store. They are also bombers.
Not really an "odd" find but a good one just the same. I picked up 3 bottles of 2011 Backwods Bastard yesterday in a beer store I go to all the time. I don't know how I missed it before or perhaps someone who works there found it in the back and stuck it on the shelf just minutes before I walked in. Not my picture as I'm not ready to drink one yet but you get the idea...
found a bunch of 4 year old unibroue and ommegang bottles at a sunoco over the summer. including a 2008 ommegeddon. nice little hual. love finding awesome/older beers at random stores.
Went into a NASTY run down store here in Chicago to get something to drink and found 2 4-packs of BCBS. I almost pissed my paints
Found two bottles of Unibroue Maudite from 2003 with an expiration date of September 2005 a few months ago. I bought them and had one out of curiosity, despite the dark floaties this one held up pretty well. I also picked up some Samichlaus Malt Liquor from 2007 and 2008. I've only had the 2007 but it was heavenly!!
After finding a wrapped bottle of Aventinus from 2007 @ the Andersons in Columbus, Ohio, which I still have on hand never thought I'd top that w/a 2005 wrapped bottle I just purchased a month ago @ Southland beverage. Aventinus which is pretty easy to come by is probably my favorite beer, in any form I can find it...
Found 2 bottles of 2009 Curvee van de Keizer blue on a dusty bottom shelf at a small gas station in Younstown, Oh. It was odd because the only other bombers they carried where Arrogant Bastard and Stella. The lady behind the counter didn't know what they where, so she gave them to me for $7.99 each. Had 1 awesome bottle that night and put the other in the cellar.
I recently found a Moinette brune from 2003 covered in dust on a shelf. I bought it because I didn't recognize the label and wanted to try something new, I was quite surprised when I opened it that the date was from 2003. It held up really well in my opinion.
There is a store here in town that still had Night Stalker and Big John I grabbed the three Night Stalkers and the last Big John , They still have Fluer, Lolita , 09 Sofie bombers , 2010 ,2011 BrrrrBon , tons of older bottles just sitting there collecting dust..
Picked up some 3f Oude Geuze from 2009 recently. Not sure if that's uncommon or not but I was pretty excited. First time trying 3f, too. Oh and a 2011 Lolita.
