My Ranco temp controller is acting weird. I just plugged it in for the first time in several months. It showed the current temp in my cellar (59F) and when I scrolled through the settings it showed the most recently used settings - cooling mode, temp differential of one degree, and set point of 2 degrees. All seemed right, as the last time I used it, I had set the temp low to maintain my freezer's temp at a certain point. Now that I want to use my freezer for a beer cooler again, I wanted to change the set point to 33. No dice. It won't let me set the temp higher than 30. Any idea what is going on?

Care to pay the solution forward?

Apparently I was being stoopid. :flushed:It was set to degrees C, and wouldn't let me drive the temp higher than 30 degrees. I thought I checked this but maybe double tapped the key pad when I thought I single tapped? Once I switched to degrees F, 30 degrees takes on a whole new meaning. At 30 C, my freezer was never going to shut off. A dry eis-stout would not be my favorite.

Edit: Nutz. I decided I better double check rather than assume that I really did solve the problem. The above solution is incorrect.:flushed: :flushed: :flushed: My cooler was at 56 F, not the 35 F set point. The real stoopid move was that it I had the differential maxed out at 30 degrees. Beer and cold medicine just doesn't mix, boys and girls.

Thanks for the update. I know it's easy to say after the fact, but I was going to ask if by chance you changed it to Celsius. I hesitated though because I also thought the controller could be set higher than 30 degrees Celsius. My "home brewery" is actually at my buddies house and I wasn't able to get there yesterday to look at my ranco's and test my theory / see if I was remembering correctly. Glad you got it working again!

See my edit. I got the story wrong.

So it was the differential that maxed out at 30 degrees :grimacing:
