Love it man hahaha. Was working in Marshall the past 2 days (and live SE of Grand Rapids)... GO!

For those asking which store it was, I'm just not willing to give it up at this point. If you make some phone calls you'll be able to find said store (or one very similar). I put in a lot of time/effort to establish some relationships with people working these stores. I also spend a lot of time stopping into local stores (where I happen to be working at the time), and get extremely lucky here too. I also have a VERY hard time shopping at stores that only reward the local customer, which is why I don't ask shops to hold bottles for me - the folks who run this store are very accommodating to EVERYBODY, which is part of why I like the store so much. Making nice with the employees/owners goes a long way in regards to being able to get some solid information.

FWIW...The store I mentioned yesterday told me they got 8 cases of BCBS, 2 cases of Barleywine, and a case of Regal Rye, and are still trying to get a hold of Rare. Make a few phone calls and you may be surprised.

So back to the topic of the thread after the Bourbon County tangent... What about this beer did you like so much? Personally, I loved the pineapple being so defined, but admittedly am not a rum guy at all (so the rum flavor was kind of a turnoff - I bought the beer because I like IPAs, want to know more about the barrel aged IPA craze, and hoped the rum flavors would be more muted lol).

    Curious on your thoughts.

I absolutely loved this beer. I love pineapple and thought the barrel really brought it out. I am indifferent toward Rum in general but I thought it worked so well with this beer. For me it was the pineapple because in the base beer it didn't come through very well.

Agree with The Colonel here, except I am not a big fan of pineapple or rum but thought I would buy a 4er and give it a whirl. I was surprised how much I liked it, it almost tasted like a mixed drink (very thick mixed drink) more than a beer. Would not drink one every day but it was really pretty good. Mokka Munt was excellent! Just the right amount of mint to give it a refreshing feel rather than a mint bomb. Will definitely be buying more of that when re-released.

Good to see this thread turn to drinking the beers themselves rather than obtaining them. I got Hipster, Mokka, Hazel's and Scalleywager and they are all top notch winners! I got far more value in both quantity and quality of beer at Oddside on Black Friday compared to slummin' for overpriced Bourbon County scraps.

Tried so many of these great Odd Side beers in the last week. So much better than paying $20 for a bcbs.

While the margin is pretty small, I'd have to go

    Hipster > Morningwood > HTV > Hazel > Scalleywagger > BBIMM > Mokka

    All this....

People are sleeping on this beer. So tasty. Rum barrels scare people but OSA pulled it off.
Pineapple addition great call vs relying on hops to shine through the barrel solo.
Even though its a DIPA I think this could sit around awhile and still taste great. But I doubt my 4 pack lasts until spring.

If anyone has yet to open a bottle of Mokka Munt, DO IT NOW!!! On draft at OSA, I thought it was very good. I got a lot of mint, a little coffee and less barrel. From the bottle, I got TONS of fudge, a nice coffee roast, the perfect amount of mint on the backend and much more of the sweet/sticky barrel. Absolutely incredible!!! I wish I would've bought more than a case! Well done OSA!

Glad also to this post turning back to the positive of the great beers from OddSide. Agree try the Mokka Munt! If you like anything mint flavored this is great and also second it's just the right amount of mint (Java Mint Chip too me little bit too much) but with the barrel aging this is more mellow. Only bought 2-4 packs but glad brought back some. Still like Hipster the best of the bunch, followed by Hazels Nuts and Mokka Munt.

So what are these Facebook groups I have not had any luck finding them? Sorry if this is not the appropriate location to ask I've just been looking for some local craft beer enthusiast groups with the intent of finding people to trade with locally and keep up with local releases. 2 hour radius of Kalamazoo.

Many of the Facebook beer groups are "Hidden" groups that someone that is a member would have to add you to. At least that has been what I have noticed.

Exactly, I have heard about a "secret" Lansing group, but have no clue, and don't really know how good it would be for me to join if I even had the opportunity.

I just don't want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member.
