My apologies if this topic has been covered before--I did a search for both "odd side bottling dates" and "odd side" and couldn't really find any information.

I'll give a little background information here, but for those who don't like to read, the basic gist of my inquiry is why some Odd Side bottles have dates and others don't. Has anyone else had this experience?

I noticed one sixer of El Dankerino in the store yesterday with a bottling date of sometime in April 2015. When I went to look at a second sixer, hoping it might be fresher (since the store had received a new case of that beer earlier in the week), I checked the bottles to find no bottling dates.

Just curious if anyone else has any insight.

Look really closely. I mean REALLY closely. I find some Odd Side bottles don't appear to have a bottling date, but it's because the stamp (or whatever it is) simply isn't legible without a damn electron microscope.

AFAIK the date is always written vertically on the side of the main label.

Yup, it's really fricking difficult to see sometimes. It'd help to carry a flashlight and magnifying glass, but then you'd probably need to invest in a deerstalker cap and pipe too.

I've actually seen some like this--where the ink is completely gone, but the impression that was left by the stamping machine was still (barely) visible.

I thought I knew the tricks for finding even the super-impossible to read ones, but maybe not.

Maybe I'll try using my iPhone flashlight next time.

The hilarious part is that going in dressed like Sherlock Holmes might look less ridiculous than sitting there in the beer aisle taking a flashlight to the side of the label.

I had the exact same problem buying CPA. I sat there in the isle for about ten min

Utes before I have up and just bought it any ways. It was as delicious as ever but I was sure I saw dates on their bottles before.

You all just verified that I'm not crazy. At least not for that reason.

    Hey Guys,

I'm the Plant Manager at Odd Side. I saw this thread and wanted to let you know that I am very aware of this issue. Starting a month or so ago, the date coder went out. It has taken this long to get it back up and running because there were several different problems with it. I know that when I buy beer, I like to have a date on it so I know how fresh it is. I have been talking to our labeler manufacture for the past 2 weeks and think we have it figured out. Just waiting on one more part and should have the issue resolved shortly.

    Awesome!

I was already well on my way to becoming a full-fledged Odd Side fanboy, but stuff like this just really impresses me. You guys have no obligation to do something as granular as monitor random BeerAdvocate threads for news/discussion/complaints/etc about your brewery. It shows how much you care about, not only your beer, but about the people who consume it. I'm hoping to visit the brewery later this year and I'm very excited to do so.

I agree! I'll be up there in two weeks, can't wait. Glad you guys have Citra in Trader Joes now!

    Hello again,

Just wanted to let you all know that after much troubleshooting, re-wiring, and replacing parts, our date stamper is back working and better than ever! Thank you all again for your patience and understanding. I hope to enjoy a pint with all of you someday. I'm at the taproom drinking and playing darts most nights. Just ask for me.

    Cheers!

Thanks Josh! I'm far away in Detroit, but my schedule is looking pretty open Black Friday. What are you going to be doing?

I gotta say, Odd Side is becoming one of my favorite Michigan breweries. My wife and I went out there last Saturday and it was awesome.

They had Morningwood on tap and it was only $6 for a pint (I believe, might have been 12 oz). Most breweries would have charged $8 or more for 8 oz of their barrel aged offerings, so I was really impressed that they kept the prices reasonable.

My wife and I enjoyed our visit to Oddside.

One complaint though, the house darts were pretty shoddy. Next time I'll be sure to bring my own

Where have you EVER seen house darts that are not shoddy?
