I may be wrong, but I believe this is the first bottling of this beer. First time I've tried it. As far as black IPA's go, I've got to say this one is spot on. I haven't had to many that fall into the Black DIPA category but this is my favorite so far. First of all, the malt is sweet enough to handle this amped-up IPA, and doesn't have that strong, roasted malt flavor that other black IPA's have. Secondly, the mouth feel is creamy at my drinking temp (~45 degrees). This mouth feel is perfect for a Black DIPA. Probably helps that this beer was bottled two days ago. I know, this site has a spot for beer reviews, but I just wanted to share my experience of this beer with those that have access to it as well.
Just picked a couple bottles of Ramrod and Goodnight Bodacious up from my local shop. Ramrod isn't bad just bitter and piney, Bodacious for the win
The hop profile for this beer is clearly Citra dominant and therefore as expected. I was caught off guard by the malt as it was creamy (like a stout) as opposed to the typical black IPA malt profile being roasted. This was a pleasant surprise to me and I must confess it worked good w/ a DIPA. This being said, I had two Gooodnight Bodacious last night and although I prefer the Car Ramrod I'll happily drink Shorts version of the black DIPA as often as they brew it. It's a kickass beer in itself!
Heh, seems to be a theme here. Just picked up Bodacious and Ramrod earlier today. Enjoying the Bodacious now, but looking forward to the Ramrod. OddSide and Citra ales are like peas and carrots.
