Thanks for the laughs. I love how a Hipster Brunch thread turned into a Slow's Blows thread.

I will say I do go there for a late night beer (for something like the brunch), so thanks for the heads up.

Slows. We have the best all meat sandwich which sounds awesome until you realize a great sandwich has vegetables on it. We know you'll appreciate it after the hour and a half wait...that is, if you can find our door. Slows.

It separates first timers from loyalists. I love that look of confusion.

 

What is this statement? Not good BBQ? Man where do you get better BBQ in Detroit, I need to know.

It's really not that bad. The food is pretty good minus the cornbread (which they apparently get from Zingermans and it's terrible). I was just jumping on.

HOWEVER, as @fishmich said above, Union Woodship is miles better but even more actual miles away from Detroit. I'm friends with Southerners who've grown up with real, authentic BBQ. They say Woodshop is the real deal and Slows is Mickey Mouse, FWIW.

WOW, I can't stop being off topic here. Should post this all on BBQAdvocate... which if it isn't a site already, it should be.

 

Definitely Woodshop. Head and shoulders above Slows, especially coupled with their mac. Another good option is Bad Brad's on the east side.

 

And yea, Hipster is the business. Didn't pursue buying a bunch initially, drank them all, realized mistake, traded for more. Very good beer.

 

I make better bbq than Slows...although I'm not in Detroit. I started making bbq 8 years ago because you couldn't find bbq in Michigan at that time. Now you can find mediocre bbq all over Michigan. I included one gratuitous Hipster photo so we don't lose focus in this thread.

 

So YOU'RE the one who got all the HBS. Couldn't find a single damn bottle in Washtenaw County.

Yes you do.

But I can say I've always had a good meal and good time there. I was really shocked by all the hate here about slows.

As for hipster brunch it was good but nothing to crazy.

 

Ill take Slows over Union all day long. Haters gonna hate, I suppose.

No, I'm not a pro. But I got a great pit and that's half the battle. I've also attended a couple classes put on by bbq champs and they gave tons of useful tips. I would love to do competitions but I just don't have the time to spare.

 

If they get it from Zingerman's then by definition it can't be terrible. #shamelessgroupie

And yeah, Woodshop is legit as hell.

Yep, KBS at 5:00 and CBS at 6:00, and it lasted for hours... multiple (3-4) pours for everyone that wanted it. Many left before it even kicked.
