Happened to me only once in my multiple trades I did over the past years. Look at my information page, but I think I did something around 20 trades. Not many if you compare me to most active trader on this site. I only did Canadian trade 'tho. Never trusted the borders!

    I'm about 100 for 100.

    Edit: In terms of success.

It's pretty rare. I've done around 60 trades between BA/RB and I have a perfect record so far. When you're talking with a potential trade partner be aware of what you're getting into, have a good line of communication and always expect a new trader to ship first. When I first started out and shipped first, I got the traders phone number, had a conversation with them and that gave me piece of mind with shipping first.

that's a pretty high burn rate. might i suggest a different hobby?

also, op, someone remarked a while back that a lot of bad traders had drug references in their names. seems to be a good pattern to start with, in terms of people to avoid.

It's extremely rare. There aren't many "bad people" looking to screw over people for a few beers. What generally happens when things go wrong is either a new-ish trader gets in over their head and can't keep up and burns out quickly, or somebody had some form of "life" happen to them and they stop caring about their outstanding trades. It happens, and it's a risk, but it seems to be well under 1%.

If you watch the ISO/FT forums and assume maybe 10% of offers get done, and if you find the few bad trader posts, you may get an idea. Extremely extremely low burn rate.

Probably about accurate, but I'm also mention that easily less than half of the trades that go down utilize the forums.

Yea, but I would consider those essentially 0 risk trades. Both sides know and have a history with each other so the odds of getting burned are probably much much lower than the low low odds of thread trades.

Insist on the other trader shipping first. Only trade with people who feel the same way.

Edit: Serious answer...to minimize your chances as a new trader, don't trade with other new traders; stick to someone with credibility.

Only been burned once out of 50+ trades but it happened to be a trade to Canada so it was a very expensive lesson.

I've never been burned on a trade thus far, collecting SS numbers before a trade is key.

Incredibly low. There are lots of trades that go on here every day, most behind the scenes, & you only see maybe two bad traders every month, or less. It sucks that those two exist, but of the hundreds of trades each month, your odds are great. Knock on wood, I'm still perfect in 200+ trades, though I've had a couple of close brushes with "miscreant" traders.

10 ish trades done, and all have been good with great extras, if uneasy just ask for refrences

btw fargoth, the threadshitting you got was unbelievable, sorry to see people do that, personally i thought you were a little off, but not by too much

Low and even lower if you do your homework and aren't credulous. There are a lot of supremely generous traders out there, but the odds of someone wanting to trade a J&J Blauw straight up for your 2012 Dark Lord are slim to none.

Otherwise, message trade partners listed in profiles, and don't stick to repeat partners of the trader. Message a few random people.

The only time I ever got slightly burned was when I was new and I did not check references. I went based off of a long list that he had in his profile and thought "oh he has done all these trades, who am I to question it". Then I looked at his post history and saw he had not been active for months. The reason he was not active for that period of time was that he was called out in a thread for being a bad trader...

Also, I made the mistake of not guidelining exactly what I wanted in return for the beer I was sending. I figured I would just be my generous self and not worry about it, mistake. I have also learned quickly, do not do trades for beer that people do not have in hand or ready immediate access to. If you do one of these trades, do not send your box out until they have confirmed they have the beer and are prepared to ship. In my experience, it will only lead to bad experiences if you are anticipating something and send the beer without confirmation. All of these guidelines of course have an exception if you traded with them before.

Do not let the potential of a really good trade cloud your judgement, do your homework.

But since my one bad experience in my first 3 trades, the rest have been wonderful(about 20).

As a new trader, try getting your first 5-10 trades in with established traders with reliable histories. They should have them listed in their profile. They'll want you to ship first as a sign of good faith so they don't get burned by a new trader. You can see how the tides will shift as you become an established trader yourself.

Lol at the first part. Can't agree more with the second part. It really benefits you to get your feet wet with someone on here that is on here ALOT and has something of a reputation to uphold
