Wow, that shit is dark! Why didn't they just put it in 750's, call it something different, and charge 15 bucks for it?

That's good to know, I was wondering if I was going to have to be concerned with that one as well.

Got a response from Odell, seemed they knew there was a difference, but it passed their taste panel and they saw it fit for sale. They said they've made changes to the new system and everything seems to be better now.

I'm getting reimbursed for my purchase and they're sending me a shirt! Long live Odell!

Hello Concerned Citizens of the Beer-iverse,

My name is Eli Kolodny and I am the Quality Control Manager at Odell Brewing Company. This thread was brought to my attention today, and I would like to address it formally. First of all, I feel genuinely honored that there are fans of our beer out there who feel strongly enough to bring these concerns up. It is because of that fact, that I wanted to explain the situation from our end.

That Myrc in question is 2 SRM darker than our standard. There was a long debate as whether or not to release it, and ultimately, we decided it tasted and smelled delicious, but was admittedly just a bit darker than spec. The darker color is indeed due to our new system, but is limited to that single batch. Additionally, this problem is not universal to all the beer being made on the system, just Myrc. We had an extended run off which produced a longer resonance time in the kettle. This allowed for more caramelization and volatilization of the wort, which led to the darker color. Since that batch, we have made dramatic improvements for the way we handle Myrc in the brewhouse. I can assure you all that moving forward that specific problem will not happen again.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns feel free to reach out to me through the "[email protected]" e-mail account listed on our website.

    Cheers,
    Eli

Thanks for getting back to us, I never got emailed back as Hoppytobethere did, I did taste a burnt flavor in the beer I bought. I was a little disappointed, but apparently not enough to stop supporting you guys as I just bought 2 6ers of IPA today:slight_smile:
