I don't care if I have to go solo to it, I am stoked I get to be there for it. Gonna be my first release party.

I've never made an Odell release party, would love to go though. Unfortunately I won't be in town this weekend but I'd be interested to hear how it is!

Nice! While I'm sure it's not quite the same - the first version of Saboteur was similar to this...and was one of Odell's best. I'm looking forward to this and I'll hope it isn't priced too high.

All their beers are priced too high, if you ask me or anyone that shops at Superior. I think they still have cases of Saboteur sitting around, not to mention the 3 or 4 most recent $15+ bombers they've put out.

Is the original Saboteur the '09 version? If so, I got to try that at the Star Bar earlier this year and actually prefer this/last years version. Both version were good, I just really enjoyed the most recent batch of it, personally.

Seems like all these Single Serve Series releases are priced equivalently, with the cost ranging from like $12 to $14 depending on store. The bottles are a touch on the high side but given that I have consistently enjoyed the ones I have tried, I don't take too much offense to the price anymore. Though the cost has prevented me from buying any of those bottles a second time (and there have been times I wanted more).

I am really excited to check out Odell's take on the style and compare it to Avery's (Oud Floris), which I really enjoyed a lot.

I'll report back if I can still afford the internet after the visit.

My goal is to grab a pint while there and then exit with a bottle of The Meddler. I wouldn't be surprised if a second glass, a potential growler of a pilot beer, and some food also enter the picture.

I believe so. To me the more recent one was heavy on the barrel character, while the older one was more about the sourness and yeast. Granted it has likely changed a lot in those 3 years, so I have no idea what it would be like these days. At the time I was blown away, though. I remember them bringing it to an event at the Wynkoop and I kinda liked it, but in the 3-4 months between that event and the main release it changed to mirror what I wanted perfectly.

With the pricing, I don't mind the $12-14 price point, but more the $16 and up items. While only a few bucks more, that's my breaking point for non-rare single bottles. Lately Odell's line-up has been on the lower end, like you mention, so hopefully that'll stay. I don't want another Woodcut or Friek pricing model.

Just checked out my reviews on the two versions and I also noticed that.

Just got back from Odell and checking out The Meddler.

The Meddler was good. Initial impressions is that it was is pretty much a marriage between Saboteur and Shenanigans....but maybe not quite as good as either. Nor is it quite up to par with Oud Floris or La Folie for comparable local Oud Bruins. That said, I will reserve final opinion until I check the bottle out as well. I have noticed that with all their Single Serve Beers its the second time I try them that I really figure where I stand on them, so there's a decent chance once I get to the bottle (which I plan to do alongside tomorrows Broncos game) my thoughts on this will evolve.

Price point at the brewery was $14.99 which should mean it will be a touch cheaper at stores. Probably depends on the store though?

As for the "party" aspect of the releases... just felt like a really busy day at Odell's. Nothing special about the event other than it providing one the first opportunity to check out their latest release....which did make it a worthwhile visit.

I have to agree with you denver10. Sort of reminded me of a few of their other brews, my wife and I were thinking Saboteur and Hiveranno. Either way, not my style anyways! But love Odell and filled up a growler of IPA for Sunday football for $9!!!!!!! Headed over to New Belgium afterwards, not my favorite brewery, first time since the new system. Actually really enjoyed it and had plenty of Super IPA!! Love that stuff! The Peach Porch Lounger was so much better in my mind on tap too.

I just got back. Really liked it. I will reserve the total praise until I taste the bottle but so far I thought they did a nice job.

Made it over to Funkwerks after. Really liked the beers but wished they bottled everything. The two I really liked they didn't bottle.

Never got to try Hiveranno, so that could be an apt comparison. I just wouldn' know.

And, Funkwerks, what beers did you try that they don't bottle, DBD? Last time I was their they had their Monarch back on tap and I do believe that is far and away my favorite beer that I have yet to try from them. I definitely wish they would bottle that one.

The had a Belgian IPA that I thought was fantastic and then they also has Bastogne which had a great nose and very tasty.

Perhaps they sold out, but did you check their fridge of bombers? While it was never elsewhere, they did offer bottles of the Bastogne at the taproom upon its release.

Must have been sold out. Asked and they didn't have any. They did have bottles of Deceit which I liked but bot as much as the other two. Glad to know they bottle it though. I'll look for it next time I'm up that way.
