I've never been to OEC, and was curious on how busy it gets on a release day. This Saturday it has 300 bottles @ 3pp. How early would I need to get there to access that particular beer? Any insight from someone that's been would be appreciated.
I can't see it being that crazy. The only release that really draws a crowd is when they release an Experimentalis. However, people do share bottles in line while waiting for open so it might not be a bad idea to get there early
I've only been to three releases there but they've all been Experimentalis. Normally we arrive between 8-9 and are part of the first 20 in line. As eb1610 said there's tons of bottle sharing going on and it's a fun experience to go early, bring a few brews, and just hang out and have some fun until the shop opens up.
I doubt shares will be going on for this one. or much if so. like said, that's for experimentalis primarily. the other weeks release didn't even sell out. go earlier if you can open hours to be safe, but you should be fine.
Yeah, hard to say. It's not experimentalis, but the oudilus (and cerasus) release was busier than ever. Those were great beers and oudilus was pretty well known. I had the aeris singularis way back when and it is freaking good. My bet is some folks will be out early in full force, but not like those other releases. Its still tradebait for some. I'll go early enough and bring some to share. Should be a great time as usual.
For bigger releases people you usually get there 2-3 hours before open for a tailgate/bottle share/10AM drinking. OEC is cool in that they let you drink outside beer in their parking lot, and often times they'll come around with flights of OEC stuff as well. There are also usually foodtrucks. However with the exception of the last Experimentalis release, I don't think the beer sells out right away and if I were you i'd shoot to get there maybe 30 minutes after they open and i'm sure you'll get whatever you want with minimum waiting.
Experimentalis are their biggest releases and most certainly amazing beers; the safety start time has been creeping up the last few releases but the advent of ticketing has allayed what could be shit-show status. They employed the same for Oudilis, a highly touted day with the fruited variant, and it seemed to work well. That said, these are new batches and simply won't have the drive of the aforementioned; by all means get there early if you can to sample a few though, such a great vibe in line. I agree that shooting to arrive around-ish open will get you some bottles... which I don't feel will last forever, I'll be shooting for noonish myself.
Expect OEC will be mellow. There will be a decent share going at two roads and there's also a Kent falls sour release in New Milford. WIll probably hit them up in a week or two to add to my tempus vert.
Heading to Tree House Thursday and Friday. On OEC website it states if you call and someone answers you can buy some beers. Anyone try this? I call and left a message, I'm hoping they might open one of this two days.
I called around 11AM on what I believe was a friday and left a message. They called me back soon after and said they would be there to sell bottles when I was in the area around 1. Love their beers.
Does anyone know when they update their website for the weekend? I'll be driving by them tomorrow and would be interested in what they have available
