Doing research for off site storage that specialize in beer, wine, spirits. Wondering where people stand on this topic. Would you use it? Pay for a service to properly store, perform bottle management, auction of bottles, procurement of specific bottles?

Thanks for participating and providing feedback.

When I get to the point where I don't have enough room for my beers in my own house, I will know I have a problem

For me, if I ever feel the need to store my beer away from home, that feeling would be immediately followed by the feeling that I should cut back on buying beer. But the option would probably look appealing to the right consumer.

Beaten to the punch by @tkdchampxi. @tkdchampxi , don't all of us already have varying degrees of a "problem?" We are posting on a beer forum at 8am

People who have a basement in their own home might not utilize the off site storage, but you don't have to have a 100+ bottle count to use the service. It could be as small as 24 bottles. Or if you just want to hide all of the beer from your
    wife/significant other

I live in an apartment and love my storage unit/tasting room. Peace of mind knowing it is all safe.

Majority of people using these services, it's because there is noplace to store it properly, not becuase they have filled up their spaces.

No one has a basement in CA, might be related to the fact that we're on a fault line or two

On that note, I used off site storage & love it. Helps a lot since space is a limiting factor at home, also in lots of double blind tastings there have been night and day differences between bottles that have been stored at proper temp vs. "closet cellar" temp.

Sure, but even if we are talking about a very small amount of beer, my earlier post would still hold true for me. I could see how it would be attractive for others. Now that this thread has been moved to the cellaring forum, it's turned me into a party crasher against my will.

I pay 180 quarterly, which is a deal on the locker size. Fits about 400 bottles. 1/2 Double Deep wine racks, 1/2 shelving split into 4 shelves.

Old picture, old beer, but gives the idea.
Now it's jammed full of case boxes to be more efficient of the space

Oh wait, I thought you were just talking about the spare bedroom you were using as a cellar. Where is the place you are using? Been thinking about getting one myself.

Yeah...The electriciy bill was pointless, and my AC was not gonna keep it consistently at 55* all summer long, I came home one day in the spring and my temp was at like 71, so I decided I needed to do something more legit.

I agree that this would appeal mostly to those without storage space, but it may also be useful if you want consistent temperature control.
