Sideways is excellent. Had a bottle of tea infused beer a few years back. Parking is tricky after bad weather.

They must have put down a lot of gravel since then, there was no issue with mud, etc.

Glad for that. Maybe soon if I can find a DD. Are you closer to them or Asheville proper?

I went there last weekend - totally agree - great family and very good beer. Definitely worth the short trip to get there.

I have heard it defined as “sparsely populated often rural areas with wide expanses of nature and often with fantastic views.”

Not sure if this qualifies as “out of the way” for the Asheville centric folks but Da Boss and i had a nice drive up back roads (US 64/74; NC-9) from the Flat Rock area to the Old Fort Hillman Beer outpost today. This locale was very nice, situated not to far from I-40, and had plenty of space most indoors with 24 house beers available and a very nice in-house kitchen. Think i liked this location better then the South Asheville location which was solid for sure!
    Cheers,
    Tom

Da Boss and i took a day trip yesterday from the Hendersonville area up to Grandfather Mountain, NC. Hung out there for a while, got hungry and decided to head to Blowing Rock Brewing. We were impressed, comfortable rustic log cabin vibe, nice bar area and plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Beer was solid as was the food and service.
Did a Place review today and it is sad to see the last full review was over two years ago. I remember a push by i believe @Todd a number of months ago to try to inspire members to review places. Kind of remember some debate around that, but from what i can tell folks just are not interested in banging out reviews.
Da Boss and i have been traveling about 4 weeks a year for a number of years in addition to our occasional day trips - i tend to rely on these reviews to make a decision to patronize places. Anyway, check out BRBC if in remote WNC!
    Cheers,
    Tom

Finally, made it to Old Fort and Hillman. Got to say we were pleased. Beer was good, but not a surprise as we've been to the Asheville location. Venue, service, and food were all great. Spent a nice afternoon on the deck overlooking the creek.
I got a Cuban sandwich, which came promptly, and was too hot to pick up when first delivered to the table.

Whaley Farm Brewery, just down the street, still hasn't opened, but staff at Hillman say they "have heard" it should open in a couple of weeks.

    Scratch Brewing in Ava, Illinois..

Talk about off the beaten path... You will think you are lost a few times getting there...

Their beers are all made with things they get off of their farm locally... Very unusual and great beer... And great pizza too...

@Miles_in_beer_city Da Boss and i made it out to Nebo on Saturday to the Fonta Flora Whippoorwill Farm. Very chill 9 acre setting with some seats that are under the cover of the open bar area but most of the seating out in the acreage with space for bean bag toss, disc golf target practice, the kids to run around, and the pups to get to know one another. Beer choices were ample with 15-20 on tap and ample to-go offerings. Enjoyed a couple of pints and a pizza from Singlewyde. Very nice afternoon for sure!
    Cheers!

Here's an off-the-beaten-path brewpub that I've actually been to: Bayside Brewing Co., Erieau, ON, Canada. The brewery fronts on Rondeau Bay of Lake Erie. Beer offerings are fairly basic (which is to my taste) as is the menu. Prices are also basic. Rondeau Park is around the other side of the bay, and Point Pelee is 75 km. away

Farm Ale Brewing in Eola Texas. It's in the old abandoned Eola schoolhouse and they brew in the old gym. Great burgers and the BEST middle of a cotton field beer you'll ever have.

    Cheers Y'all

Bumping this forum again @Miles_in_beer_city ...

Recently went to Whaley Farm Brewery in Old Fort, NC. Definitely worthy of a trip, Chris Whaley and his wife are very down to earth and friendly people. If not too busy, Chris will gab beer stuff and life with you as long as he has time. A friend of Chris' is building out a food truck that is hoped to be ready to go in August. Installing a pizza oven, focus on Italian foods. Only downside is only open on Friday - Sunday at the moment. Cask ales are worth the stop. Chris focuses on old world styles that he tweaks things a bit from time to time.
    Cheers!

I'm spending the month of June in Waynesville and I'm glad I found this thread. Thanks to Miles_in_beer_city for starting it. Especially like the info on the little farmhouse breweries in the out of the way places. Can't wait to hit Whaley.
