FWIW I like it. Then again I love the bourbon barrel effect, which it is dominated by... To each their own. Got 1 left for the vertical and I'll probably try to grab a few more at Petrol tomorrow.

BRC has the best burger and pint night deal in Houston. $8 burgers $3 all pints on Monday. After having reasonable prices for the first BB they jacked the prices up. Lowered them again and now have once again outrageous prices. I don't get it. I really like the place but can be ridiculous for no reason.

Anyway BB5 is awesome. I can't get enough of it.

id like to taste the base beer to see what changed, first sips were just overwhelming barrel with a thin finish.

While this was good, as others mentioned, it was way bourbon forward to the point of not being able to recognize the base beer. :slight_frown: I had a couple DR4s in the past and liked them a lot. Was excited to get a chance to have a BA version of it. Unfortunately, Saint Arnold has a way to go, IMO, to perfecting the art of barrel aging their brews. Barrel aging should enhance the base beer, not smother it. Alesmith BA Wee Heavy this wasn't.

The only place I could get mine was BRC, and from what I am hearing this is a great beer so $13 bucks was manageable. Plus it sure beats the hell out of a $50 Muerte DL or anything of the sorts. Is it better than backwoods bastard? I believe they are the same style.

Damn, Straight Bourbon? I'm kinda disappointed - I was looking forward to this one.

I drank another BB5 last night (picked up from Star Pizza) and it's really growing on me. I think with my first taste I expected something different, but now that I know what I'm getting into, I think it's a really smooth, velvety bourbon beer, and it gets better as it warms up.

I kinda had the opposite in terms of barrel from the one bottle I had. Started out with tons of wee heavy and DR4ishness and no real barrel characteristic. As it warmed up I got a lot more barrel. Toward the end (room temperature), all barrel all the time.

I enjoyed it but it's not my favorite of the BBs. But I am interested to see how it ages. I'm not sure in what direction it'll go because I couldn't grasp anything that I would see developing in a specific way.

That said, it seems about 10-15 degrees colder than room temp is perfect.

I can think of at least 2... which one's the third?

Anyone know of anywhere that may still have a couple of bottles that I can pick up to go? Would love to spin by somewhere on the way home from work and grab a couple of the weekend when I have time to sit down and try.

    Thanks.

If not, I'll just have to start picking through that mountain of bottles I picked up at The Bruery last week while in California for work.... I love work trips... have another one in time to pick up my Black Tuesday allotment this weekend... P.S. if there's anyone that needs a mule and can get in touch with me ASAP, I'll happily be that guy in exchange for a couple of BBA FUN 007

This whole BRC thing bums me out. They've always been my pick for best beer selection in a Houston restaurant. These prices and the whole "last one left in town!!!" BS are both disappointing.

As for BB5, I enjoyed it last night but won't seek any more out. Agree that it's a bit thin-bodied and unbalanced towards the booze/barrel.

No Label Perpetual Peace, on the other hand, is crazy delicious. It was still on tap at D&Q as of yesterday around 5pm -- run, don't walk. Top-shelf BBA Wee Heavy. I had no idea that NL was barrel-aging, and I certainly didn't expect them to hit it out of the park on the first swing, but they did.

I'd do it, but would need to see how many 007s I can grab. You know it can be feast of famine with the FUN series.

I'll do my best to grab you a couple.

just to be clear - i'll mule it back if you need someone to mule beer you purchased last week during their online sale (just BM). The BT I purchased is for me! :stuck_out_tongue:

But, back on track of the thread - anywhere know of a spot that may have "to go" bottles left?

Petrol is releasing tonight, and Star just tweeted me saying that the Wash. store still has about 10 bottles left.
