I found bottles in Houston for $6 a bottle at one place, and then was charged $12 a bottle at another.

After reading through this thread, does anyone know if BB1 has made it to Dallas yet? According to SA facebook page it has. I called a few places and got the run around about if and when they will have it.

To compare, Lost Abbey has BA beers that retail in the $16/12oz bottle. They end up going for $25-30 in bars.

    It's all about perspective.

Then why not charge more for it if you know its going to sell? It's expensive to start a barrel aging program, especially a large one. The first batch was small because they are just starting. I don't think it was about marketing to drive up demand. I'm pretty sure SA knows at this point all they need to do is release a beer with "divine, barrel, or pumpkin-something" on the label and everyone will rush to buy as many as possible.

Yep. And Scott was nice enough to hand out numbers. I think there were 12 happy and 2 unhappy people total at 11 when they opened.

There are two 'bottle shops' in the Houston area, and a lot of grocery stores/ markets.

not sure where I got it from but I seem to remember that retail mark up is usually about 30-40%. So we're looking at about 100-200% mark up? I wonder if this kind of thing is going to go for or against St Arnold. Maybe the hype continues to build or maybe people realize the market it starting to get saturated with other options. Other options that don't involve the crazy mark up or crazy rush of beer nerds making it hard for you to even find any.

I'm a beer ***** so I got a bishops barrel when the opportunity presented itself but there's also other beers like Black Butte XXIV still sitting on the shelves in some places. Just sayin

Based on these 13 pages, is it safe to say this is the most controversial beer release in Houston history? People just don't seem to be able to stop discussing it, no matter how many times we go over the same points ad nauseam.

It is not uncommon for 100% mark up on specialty items, especially at a bar. Have you seen bottle prices at the Saucer, Gingerman, or wherever compared to Specs or D&Q?

Mark up in bars and restaurants is about 200%-300%. Retail is a different story.

I am ok with places selling it to go for $6 or $7 and if you have to drink it there then $10 is reasonable. Basically if the bar is acting like a bottle shop and selling to go then it should not be super marked up but if its drank there than usual bar mark up applies. IMHO

I have just one question; can I complain about the people that are complaining about those with complaints about the original complainers? Maybe we can get to 20 pages
