Offshoot Beer Co. - New line from The Bruery

I'm not sure where you're from but most people I encounter who use the word dumb do not always use it in a strictly literal way. it can also mean "not good" "lame" "poor choice" and many other things. it's a colloquial usage. not unlike when people say something is "sick" but they actually mean it's really good, and not undergoing some kind of infection or physical calamity

 

I think I may sign up for this and hope my trustee can make enough of the windows that I maintain priority. At least until I can figure out whether it's worth the hassle. The feedback on the beers that were on tap over the weekend has been sparse but less than 100% glowing. Still, as a general rule y'all are a hard group to impress. Based on their hoppy beers to date, and the general quality of their brewing ability, I have some significant amount of faith that they will be able to pull off some pretty excellent hop and haze bombs.

 

I thought it was a good start for a non-ipa brewery that's finally jumping on the bandwagon. I do like the can idea. I feel the more cans (on most ipa's), the better. I wonder how long this was in the works for? I don't think the Bruery would release something subpar to its fans and soon to be new fans. Many tweaks before they finalize their products. More IPA greatness for us hop heads. And maybe more bait for those HazeBros for trading?

 

I'm so glad they didn't choose any names like those that you posted, ha ha. I'm fine with their simple name.

For their first batch of ipa's, I think they are good. It's a nice alternative if you don't want to stand in line for cans.

Hopefully this will work out.

I for one think the branding is great. The logotype is really well done, and I'm digging the memphis design movement qualities of the packaging. Light, playful, fun. Spot-on.

Also a fan of the pick-up system for this. So long as the beers live up to the Bruery's reputation, I can see this easily becoming my go-to for this style of beer. Why put up with anything else?

 

Interesting... First time this year I've been *slightly* disappointed I dropped my RS member ship...

 

I am still holding out that they jump on the vanilla bean bandwagon. I'd rather have a Vanilla Black Tuesday. IMO.

 

The amount of people who still think this is an April Fool's Joke is just mind boggling. Stupidity really reached a new limit here, that is until I went on Facebook and read the replies of those idiots.

 

Glad the sales are online, but kind of irritated you have to physically pick them up.

Didn't they say they were planning to do this once they figured out a good way to do cold shipping? Or did I imagine that?

 

Shipping is a capability we're looking at for future releases. April will be pickup only though.

 

The cans will match my Trapper Keeper quite nicely.

 

For those digging or loathing the name "Offshoot" ... here's some insight into the name, Patrick says:

“I was searching my email for “offshoot” a week ago and came across a message from 2007 from my wife where she used the word ‘offshoot’ in an old unpublished blog post (from Aug. 23, 2007, before The Bruery was open). She had just toured Mammoth Brewing’s canning line, noting, “while cans don’t fit The Bruery’s branding, maybe someday we can make an offshoot brand making hoppy IPA’s. The email was strange as we had never planned on that name and had 40 other names floating around, Offshoot is what stuck.”

Kinda cool what kind of stuff you can dig up form old emails, especially if it's the inspiration for a brewery name. That said, I'll certainly sign up to try these out, but I must admit I'm probably the 1% of the craft community that really doesn't like hoppy beers at all. Just not my cup of tea.....but hey, this could change my mind!
