I'm well versed in Kittery and Portland, but somehow have never been to Ogunquit. Looking for the usual food, drink, and of course beer recommendations. Only staying one night and staying at the Gorges Grant to give you an idea of location. Definitely walking Marginal Way, but beyond that, looking for suggestions! Thanks!
MC used to be the place but I think the original chefs are gone now. I have no idea if its good anymore Jonathan's is off route 1 but is a pretty cool place. Buck a shuck if thats your thing, and they do live music. I actually saw Arlo Guthrie there one time not too long ago. Not Ogonquit, but also not kittery or portland....Walkers in York is pretty great
Not sure this is helpful for this, but Walker's is awesome. We think about the brioche donuts dessert there a lot. Ogunquit has a lot of stuff going on, not sure it's necessary to drive out of the way if you're staying there one night. Walker's absolutely deserves a mention for that area though.
Speaking of York…I never have been to York River Landing. That and Tributary could be hit on the way up or down…
I can't speak too much to ogonquit itself but the adjacent towns have good stuff for sure. Odd By Nature has great food. Batson River has a nice spot up in Wells. Congdon's After Dark runs a nice beer garden with a good local selection as I recall. (Closed after labor day it looks like)
Ogunquit is a great little town. Should be pretty quiet in October. Was not impressed by the draft options in town. Front Porch General Store is outrageously overpriced ($29 for Swish). Check out Bow Street Beverage, just over the town line in Wells. On the best that I have ever been to.
Huh Bow Street? As many times as I’ve been in the Wells area, I’ve only ever gone in Tully’s. I’ll have to check it out in November.
We stay in Ogunquit every November. Love staying there. That being said, we’re not big on restaurants in town. The one place I’ve been to a few times is Cornerstone Artisanal pizza with a decent tap list. We’ve also taken the kids (20 and 16) to Brickyard Hollow. Enjoyed the food and their craft beer is fine for my palate. Usually we get lobster or food from The Market for the room one night but the other meals are in Portland and Kennebunkport. Edit: also some places are closed in November that might be worth checking out in October if they’re still open.
Bow Street is definitely quality. That Wells location has only been open maybe a year and a half or so. They also have a another great store in Portland basically right across the street from The Great Lost Bear
Ogunquit sadly won’t offer much for good beer. Treehouse taqueria is great and usually has a few good canned options. Cornerstone has some good taps and pizza. Given I surf and am friendly with the family we tend to go to hooks a lot for the food as well as a mean Pina Colada. If you like Caribbean inspired food they're worth a stop. But closing soon. Other than that. Some spots are pretty good, many are overpriced. York and Ogunquit both suffer from seasonal crowds. So the options that are in town aren’t always top notch as they need to please huge crowds only a few months a year. A large number of folks(including ourselves) tend to just just grill and cook at the cottage after long and hot beach days. I’d say the commuters tend to be the ones hitting the restaurants. OGT has a little bit more of a nightlife. Given the few miles of hotels. But again, nothing a BA would go out of the way for. Portland certainly offers. I’ll second checking out River Landing or Tributsry since they’re so close. When pigs fly Pizzeria can be solid as well.
Does this store have anything I can't find in MA? We pretty much get anything from Schilling or Bissell for example that I could want. If there's Russian River that's a different story...
They carry Russian River. Whether Pliny is in stock is another question. They will likely have Swish. They also have Trillium. It is right on Route 1, so worth popping in.
Swish and Trillium we get. Might be worth popping in to see if there's any Russian River. I see plenty of that in Portland when I go.
What are the good less common Maine breweries? When I was up in Boothbay this Summer, I saw a lot of breweries that I hadn't been exposed to or had someone vouch to me about so I was a little hesitant to try them (when fresh Lunch is available for a $6-7 at Hanny's). I would like to be more open and curious the next time I'm up in Maine.
