OK, I live in PA but am planning to venture out to Ohio to score some beers not available in PA. I have done so in the past just by going to Krogers or wherever. However, I'm looking to buy cases, not 6 packs and don't know where I can or should go.

PA's ridiculous beer distributors make it simple to find cases but with beer sold in gas stations and grocery stores, it is more difficult in OH.

    Any help?

I can't think of anywhere that sells beer by the case off the top of my head, unless it's straight from the source. I'm also not sure how often you get a case discount with Ohio's liquor laws I'm not sure you can.

Where are you going? There are tons of places to buy cases in OH, but no one can recommend a particular one unless you say what city/part of the state you'll be around.

I live just south of Pittsburgh so I'd planned to go only as far as I have to - ideally to St. Clarisville or thereabouts. I will venture farther if I need to.

In Pennsylvania, I can go to a beer distributor and select from a large selection of cases - not just the few mainstream ones available in OH grocery stores or gas stations. I have not seen a decent selection, particularly of cases, in the OH stores I've been to.

The destination is to wherever I need to go to buy beer...

Specifically, I am looking for seasonal beers from Madtree, Rhinegeist, Jackie O's, and Four String.

Rhinegeist - Dad - holiday red ale
Four String - Big Star White IPA
    Four String - Vanilla Porter
    Madtree - Thunder Snow

Thanks; I realize that. I'm planning this trip for several reasons but primarily to get some not so common (to PA) seasonal beers for a Christmas/Winter beer exchange. I haven't specifically looked about their release dates, but figure I'll make this trip after the first of November. As I get closer, I'll do a bit more research and if I have to wait until Thanksgiving, I'll do so.

Also, it's rumored that MadTree is going to can their Pilgrim which would be another amazing holiday beer. I would follow them both on Twitter or Facebook and then you'll have a good idea of when they'll be out.

In terms of distro. I don't think MadTree makes it that far out. I know they are in Columbus.

Based on your location, I'd suggest coming to Columbus to find all these beers as all 4 breweries you mentioned are widely distributed here. I don't buy cases of beer, but a few of the Giant Eagle Market Districts always seem to have a large volume of seasonals, so it would be easy to buy a case worth. However, not sure you'd get a discount. Could be worth it to call the distributors as well.

Columbus is a hike for me - that would be better than a 6 hour round trip just to buy some cases of beer... I will do it if i have to, but am investigating if there are any alternatives.

You could also try and find someone in Columbus to trade with.

Is there someplace specific in Columbus that sells crafts by the case? I have been to Columbus numerous times in the last couple years and always just get 6 packs at Kroger.

Not that they sell them buy the case (special prices) but you could certainly buy cases worth of it. The Giant Eagle in Grandview has a large selection and stacks of craft beer. You could also hit The Andersons off I-70/Brice Rd exit since it'd be on your way. I know some Giant Eagle's do put some limited release stuff behind counters (Grandview, Hilliard-Cemetary Rd) but the one in Victorian Village never does (Bodhi and Creeper).

Four String is located on the west side of Columbus, .I am sure they can point you to the best place to get quantity, I see it everywhere. Rhinegesit/Madtree can be found at any Giant Eagle or beer store.

I legitimately told you, I don't know ANYWHERE that sells beer by the case. They break down their six packs and put them on the shelf. You would have to ask for a case from the back. I don't know why you don't understand this.

I usually stop at the St. Clairsville Kroger when I visit my in-laws in Wheeling. When did they start carrying Reingeist? I never find it there. I'm also always very interested in where to pick up quality crafts in Eastern Ohio, and so far I've found nowhere better than that Kroger.

I'm pretty sure every store will sell you a case of whatever beer you want, assuming they have it in stock They simply don't put cases out as very few people actually buy a full case of craft. You would basically just pay the equivalent of 4 six packs unless there is a specific case discount, which I really have never seen.

The only craft beer I ever see in full cases with a price listed per case is Great Lakes Christmas Ale. This time of year every grocery store has stacks of cases.
