I'm a huge fan of malty IPAs. My absolute favorite is Great Lakes' Nosferatu. Every year when it's released, I go to the brewpub and stock up. Unfortunately, I can't afford to buy enough to make my stock last all year. Last spring I was able to grab enough Bone Head Red from Fatheads to tide me over, which I consider a worthy supplement. Between that and Nosferatu, I had a full stockpile. However, Fatheads doesn't plan to brew Bone Head again this spring and my cellar of Nosferatu is running out. Can anyone give me some recommendations for a similar Ohio beer that will keep me happy until Nosferatu is released again in the fall?
Masthead does a great Red IPA. Not sure how much is left out in the market. I picked up a four pack in Columbus around three weeks ago.
Wooly Pig's IPAs are quite old school and malty. Including a delicious red. Noble Creature has had a few too. Distribution wise, FFF Lord Rear Admiral also hit shelves recently and wasn't far off.
MadTree's Rounding Third red IPA just came out within the last couple of weeks and might be another one that works for you.
Soooo, you are looking for a double RED IPA? That is what Nosterafu is.....not a real common "style" Pretty sure Wooly Pig is a lager only farm brewery - have been there many times and they do not brew IPA's.....IPL's - yes, not IPAs
Yes, last month I did mean to use an L there, not an A, but that aside, I don't really think OP is hung up on ale or lager in this ask. Flavor profile seems to be the primary driver here and those suggestions, especially as far as Ohio goes, are pretty in line, at least to my palate. Do you have any suggestions pertinent to OP? Curious @5thOhio did you find anything to your satisfaction since your post?
