Have a friend headed to Painesville, OH from the Twin Cities. Was wondering where they should stop and what they should look for. Is there anything special out there right now? Compiled a list of some stores: Rozi's, Red Wine and Brew, Lina's, Chuck's Fine Wine, Warehouse Beverage, Save-On Tobacco & Beverage, and Lizardville The big distribution difference would be: Fat Heads, Jackie O's and Troegs
Avoid Red Wine and Brew, it's a beer museum and has old, old bottles everywhere. Since he'll be in Painesville, he's like 5 minutes away from Willoughby Brewing Co. They make some awesome beers, including Peanut Butter Cup Coffee Porter, one of the best beers in the area if you like peanut butter & coffee. Rozi's is across town but is a great store. If he can just go to one store, I recommend Lizardville for singles. Fat Heads and Troegs will be everywhere. Jackie O's only has 2 cans available - Firefly Amber and Chocomungwhateveritscalled Brown. I would also recommend looking for Revolution botttles - Dos Osos and Crystal Hero if you like hoppy beers, Very Mad Cow and Eugene if you like dark beers. Also Columbus IPA and Summer Teeth are both awesome.
Thanks for the response, that porter sounds incredible, will have to see if he can get a growler of that. Was recently in Chicago so I scored a bunch of those Revolution ones, got Mean and Bean Gene that were great. Ill have to tell him to look for Dos Osos.
If growlers are a possibility, Save-On sometimes has growlers of Columbus Bodhi. That stuff is amazing. Probably the best beer brewed in Ohio along side the Fat Heads IPA's. Fat Heads has an awesome IPA called InspirationAle right now and a great APA called Trailhead.
Save-On Tobacco & Beverage is definitely the beer store you'd want to stop at. It's not far from Painesville and they have a great selection and affordable growler fills.
Yes, Save-On has growlers.. I'm pretty sure Willoughby does to, but it has been a minute since I've been there..
Rozi's (which looks like it's in the plans already) should be putting on Peanut Butter Cup Porter soon too. Not sure when they'll be headed through, but if it's on, glass is like $2-3 or something ridiculously cheap. Chances are they'll have at least one other beer you'll want a fill of too.
To be honest, I'm not sure how much they cost at Save-On because I usually just bring my own.. sorry.. but I would imagine that it's nothing too drastic..
Save-Ons growler are only a few bucks new and their growler fill prices cost a lot less than other places on the same beers. Def look for Bodhi as it is an outstanding DIPA. Avoid Lina's in Painesville as it is also a museum like RWB in Chesterland. Your best bet on the eastside, along with Save On, is Lizardville in Bedford Hts. If your friend is flying into Cleveland Hopkins and driving out east, it would be best to stop at Fat Heads, Lizardville Rocky River, Rozi's, Simones for goodies.
My buddy got me a growler of the Willoughby Peanut Butter Cup Coffee Porter, Troegs Perpetual growler, Head Hunter, Bumbleberry and Ithaca Flower Power.... cant wait!
