This is the obvious choice to pair up with the zoo. Close, kid friendly, great food, usually real nice tap list.

I'd recommend Smokehouse Brewing. Actually pretty convenient to the zoo area, in that you just shoot down 33. Easy to park. Kid friendly.

Eh, good food option, but probably looking at a ~2 hour visit and I don't think Thurman is known for beer??

I'm sticking with my Barley's recommendation. Great beer and food, and a great kid friendly environment. I checked on their menu and they do have a kid specific menu. Brewery is visible from the bar area. Great environment and great service, IMO.

From their current tap list, I'd recommend Chupacabra (imperial brown with vanilla and cocoa), the oatmeal stout, and Blurry Bike IPA. Blood Thirst Wheat is a good one as well and their best seller (basically like a Blue Moon with the oranges already in the beer). The Woodsman and Ulysses look like they would be worth a try as well (never tried them). The beer isn't going to knock socks off, but definitely very solid and they brew a lot of classic styles (pilsner, Scottish, ESB, pale ale, etc...).

It's a brewery that doesn't seem to get ANY love anymore, but definitely worth a stop. http://barleysbrewing.com/ale/ontap.html
