KBS is one of the few beers that has really, really delivered every single time I have consumed it. Anywhere from fresh to 2 years aged it is phenomenal. You might have just had expectations way too high up before drinking it and it couldn't hold up to those. Your personal tastes also might not agree with it, not everyone will love it. Hopefully I can get more than a single bottle next year, KBS is king!

    KBS > FBS, imo.

I wish I had more KBS in my cellar...

If the OP doesn't like FBS do you really think he'll like KBS? I haven't had KBS but I find I don't like the bigger beers once they start getting above 10%. For example I love the Rochefort 8 wayyyy better than the 10.

I personally think that those 25 swingtop of RareR DOS are completely overrated, how do I know that? I am drinking this Kalamazoo Stout and,

I need to try Moat Water, when does the new Gratitude come out?

    12 bottles in a case.

You do have a good point, but I think he actually may like KBS over FBS. I find KBS to be sweeter, which may help OP find easier to drink perhaps.

KBS is a great distraction. Let the fanboys and the beer *****s have at it.

MY local shop is selling an aged bottle for $15 ($19 for the new enthusiast in town). I know the price is steep but living in Pittsburgh I'm used to high prices. Question is...is that worth it for a first try? The hype is kind of dragging me in.

I have to second JKIRBY, FIS (Founders Imperial Stout) is a Fantastic Stout, and should be more easily attainable than KBS, and will hopefully be available within the next 30 days or so. Very deep, rich and full of bold flavors. I have one from last year that I want to try aged, and a 12pack of Expedition Stout 2011 (you know, you can get Bell's Expedition Stout right now, another good one to try) ...and yes, enjoy the journey! Now after all this talk I think I will end my evening with an FBS

Now please shut up so I can still get FIS when it comes out next year.

My advice is to start reading the Beer Releases forum regularly and get a good idea about what beers are season/limited/super limited/brewery only/etc. You don't want to be judging your first Hopslam in early December for example.
