So the other day I stopped off at a hole in the wall no name party store that carries a small yet "weird" selection of craft and imported beers, I've been there once before and decided to revisit.
To my amazement I stumbled across a few bottles (bombers) of beer by Great Divide Brewing Co.
One was a smoked baltic porter and the other was a pale ale I do believe. Now my question is... where did this come from?
GDB doesn't distribute to MI... maybe they did years ago idk...
Has anyone else seen this or now how this happens?

Have never seen Great Divide in MI. Cool find!

Maybe it's the first trickle of a new distribution pattern?

I seem to recall that Great Divide did distribute here in Michigan, and it was probably pre-2005. If that is the case, those are OLD bottles.

I was thinking the same. The bottles did have some dust on them lol.

@Mebuzzard has the first review of Smoked Baltic Porter in August, 2010. But those bottles could still be pretty old.

I'd skip the PA, but I might give the Baltic Porter a shot.

This place has alot of beers that have been sitting on the shelves. Also seen some Ten Fidy from 2013, Chocolate Sombrero in bombers (never seen before). Same place I happened to find Bombay Berserker by Clown Shoes which I snagged a bottle of.

Beer sitting on the shelf, or even forgotten in a storeroom somewhere for eleven years sounds pretty far fetched. That's definitely weird if that's the case, and it's pretty sleazy of them to try to sell it.

I was going to stop and grab it later during the week. Give it a try.

I'd give the Baltic Porter a try as well, definitely pick up the Ten Fidy and Chocolate Sombrero too. Especially if the price is right!

What strikes me odd is that they do have new arrivals of craft beers. I'm guessing they dont sell alot of it, or at least certain kinds.

Well...it is possible. When perusing the shelves of a hole in the wall Mom & Pop, I discovered three bottles of TJ Swan. (Our Senior members will remember it!) :grimacing:

Check the label corners, should be there.

Ris and porter that sits in their storeroom sounds like a jackpot to me. Any old stock?

I definitely will next time I stop. Very interested in trying it out. Also the '13 Ten Fidy will be a delight. Among those they have a Griffin Claw Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon. Worth a try.

To the OP, that smoked baltic sounds like a really cool find! I'd snatch that up in a heartbeat.

Yep, you recall correctly, Great Divide was most definitely distributed in our state years ago. Back around 2007-2008, a liquor store I frequented near my old house sold bombers of Yeti. I'm almost positive they had Old Ruffian and the oak aged Yeti as well.

I still have an empty I saved that was originally bought from that store....this thread prompted me to go dust it off and snap a quick pic. It still has the $7.99 price tag on the back, hah:

    Which prompts my next question...
Why would they stop distribution to MI.?

It was a case of their business growing too fast for them to keep up, production wise. Hopefully they'll be back one day. I know I always make it a point to seek out anything I can find from them when I travel through Ohio.
