I always want a cask beer when I go out. Like my old homey Skip used to say when we'd make our way down to the Green Leaf, "It's like making them get on top, they have to work". Whether or not it is properly handled or priced to turn over like it should is another story.
Ironically I just discussed that topic (re: stale cask ale at British pubs) in the Cask Ale thread. Sometimes it is like:
None of the above. OP said it was “near Seattle,” so could be anywhere from Everett to Tacoma to Snoqualmie.
So many of the points you cite are what you'll find at most of the popular breweries. Since you're fairly new to the BA site I'll guess that you have yet to discover the Places feature. It's on the Main Menu and using it will allow you to search for a list of all breweries in Seattle or any specific suburb. Once you have the list, take a look at the numerical rating for the Beers and the Place as your first indicator of it being a worthy place. Look at the various beer styles that they brew and their rating. Read recent Place reviews for positive/negative comments. In other words, the Places allows you to do some advance research to help you find the breweries that fit into the features that you want in a brewery.
I don’t know what to make of the OP or how accurate the description of the beer selection is. Would be great to get more specifics. Without better info I have to take this thread with a grain of salt. I assume you’re being facetious. My experience with most breweries in this area is that plenty of variety can be found, and few if any serve only IPAs.
Well yeah I might be a little facetious when I say that, the top 10 most checked in beers (1000’s of them) on Untappd for Holy Mountain are: Witbier Saison Dark Ale Brett Beer Saison Saison Saison Imperial Brown Ale Czech Pilsner It seems they are ‘arsed’ as OP put it to try some other things.
Right. HM is definitely not an IPA-heavy brewery. What’s more, I don’t think there’s any brewery in the PNW, if not the entire West Coast, that produces only hazy IPAs. They are nowhere near as prevalent here as they are back east.
I like that Holy Mountain is named after the Sleep album. I've never had anything from them, but I've always enjoyed anything that has a relation to doom. Gave Thor from Right Proper a talking to about why they didn't have The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull available when Dylan Carlson opened for Sleep several years ago. If you're going to have an excellent beer named after a dude's album, have stuff available when you're within walking distance.
Ahem, well akshulllyyy..... They even lifted their logo from this movie. They are a metal themed brewery (which is one of the reasons I hate going to the Mothership), but they make great beer. Another story about their name is that it's a mash-up of Holy Diver and Man on the Silver Mountain.
I’m going with Occam’s razor on this one. Tried to watch the film (and several other Jodorowsky films that are available at the Seattle Pubic—er, Public—Library), but couldn’t get through it. Just not my jam. But they do make great beer regardless how they came to be named.
There are may an IPA factory these days. But there are plenty of other options too. Luckily, most places post the beers they have available at any given time (or, you can at least get a sense of the types of beers they sell). I certainly check out their website before I decide to go. If they have 12 taps, 9 are IPAs and the other three are a dry hopped pilsner, a barrel aged stout, and a hard seltzer, I’m out.
Im mainly interested in "light lagers" these days but not at any cost and it has to be priced accordingly.
