Have we abandoned this forum? There's too much TEXAS in here.

I already tried to get Texas it's own region. I failed miserably.

Yeah, I've pretty much abandoned it. There's really no discussion about Oklahoma breweries, other than Prairie, in the SW forum. And I'm so over and done with the Prairie hype/discussion, that I'm more than happy to stick with the other Oklahoma breweries' offerings. Also so very few people outside of the state know anything about the other Oklahoma breweries (i.e. COOP, RoughTail, Anthem, Iron Monk, Choc, Marshall, Mustang, 405, Elk Valley, Dead Armadillo, Black Mesa) that it really isn't worth the effort to try and start a discussion about them, unless someone is actually asking for information and/or recommendations. Because those topics will almost always be overlooked by everyone else in the forum who is in search of the newest Jester King, Live Oak, Prairie, La Cumbre, etc. release info.

@DrumKid003 I wouldn't mind seeing those discussions going on here. Now that I have a conduit to OK beer, would really like to hear about anything interesting that they have going on. My first trip I brought back some Anthem and COOP and last trip I grabbed some of the RoughTail offerings. My daughter is making approx 3 more trips back before Summer, so would like to know some good things to have her bring back. I gotta say I love what some of the breweries are doing up there with the constraints that are placed on them. I went to Marshall back in December and was kind of like "oh shit nothing but <4%" but was blown away by the mouth feel of the 4 beers I had on tap. Was kinda pissed that I waited until the last day to go.

We don't have enough hype! ...because we're too busy drinking beer.

I tried, if I want to be ignored I can hang with my family. Now that I'm working out of state, I have little information to add.

Yeah get that feeling sometimes, but I want to thank ya'll up there, I have posted some things here in regards to OK and ya'll have always been quick to respond.

The hype portion of your statement pretty much sums it up. I'm sure you could drum up some hype for something like: COOP TR BBA BarleyWine or TROAIS Coconut, RoughTail 1st or 3rd Anniversary, Elk Valley Schank! or Pumpion, Anthem Count Pedro or Pappy Burleson. I think it would still end with 55-60% of people just completely disregarding any of the beers because they're always looking at the more well known brands, vs. 40-45% actually enjoying some of the beers that come out of Oklahoma (keep in mind I'm not bothering to include Prairie in any this).

Thanks @DrumKid003, I just went to look at Roughtails site and saw that the 3rd Anniversary Ale has Blood Orange, which is my weakness, is it still available around the OK (Tulsa) area? Also what are y'alls thoughts on COOP Negative Split and when does Alpha Hive start dropping, I see it is seasonal. My daughter will be coming back home in a couple of weeks so going to give her a shopping list. So interested in any other beers I should have her bring back

    1) RT's 3rd Anniversary is gone already as far as I know. There were only 1 or 2 places, in OKC, that had still had a keg and/or cans last week and they said weren't getting anymore, nor were any of the 3 shops I stopped by to pick up some cans. The Blood Orange/Grapefruit puree gives it a very juicy characteristic, makes it sweet, and the body seems thicker since it's not filtered. I would like to have seen someone do a comparison of this and one of the highly rated unfiltered NE IPAs.
    2) It's been at least a year and a half since I had a taster of Negative Split so I can't comment on it, but it averages about a 3.4/5 among my friends.
    3) I think Alpha Hive has been showing up more places recently, but make sure to check the dates on the sticker on top of the plastic 4-pack holder, because I've seen some that have been sitting around for a while.
    4) Shopping list depends on what style(s) you're most fond of, or wanting to try, but these are my usual picks for anything not from Prairie, and not barrel aged (also going by what the brewery classifies them as):
    • Witbier - Anthem Arjuna, Iron Monk Stilly Wheat (Haven't tried, but heard some good things)
    • Stout - Antherm Uroboros
    • Pale Ale - Elk Valley Pale
    • Berliner - Elk Valley Schank!
    • IPA - COOP F5, RoughTail IPA, Anthem IPA (Strongest hop bitterness/presence to lightest)
    • DIPA - RT Hoptometrist, COOP Alpha Hive, Elk Valley Experimental IPA Batch 2
    • ESB - Black Mesa ESB
    • Gose - Choc Signature Series Gose
    • Milk Stout - Iron Monk Milk Stout, Mustang Udderly Awesome Peanut Butter Milk Stout
    • Porter - Marshall Big Jamoke (Maybe out of production since it's April)
    • Black Ale - Marshall El Cucuy
    • Saison - Elk Valley Le Ferme

Okie beers will trade for Fou if you do it right (and BA Bomb was the only Prairie)

I'm interested to see what it would take, just because I will never get into the beer trading scene. I'm imagining something along the lines of a case of BA Bomb! though.

405 Brewing's FDR is a fantastic chocolate coffee stout this year. Last year's version was funky, as they were just taking off, but they definitely are getting it figured out. Probably my favorite non BA Oklahoma stout, outside Bomb.

I'm glad to hear the FDR is better this year, because I have been putting off trying it again after having a sample of it at last year's OCBF. Four of my friends and I almost didn't finish our samples because of how bad we all thought it was.

Alpha Hive is better than Hopslam. Even better, it seems like COOP has begun printing the date on the bottom of cans.

Roughtail's new ipa hits stores tomorrow, Everything rhymes with orange. It is a rerelease of Adaptation Ale, batch 3. I highly recommend everyone grabs some.

Thanks @rboughner my daughter found this today in Tulsa and picked it up for me. @DrumKid003 thanks for the list. I have had a few of those on my trips up there and am going to come up one more time before summer, or during summer so will try to score the Gose(s) at that time.
