Like others, SN and Sam Adams. Also really like Goose Island's.

This is not one of my favorite styles, but man is the Great Lakes good. For my buddy, this is his favorite style, and he was also blown away by the Great Lakes.

Hacker-Pschorr originial Oktoberfest Amber Marzen just hit my area. It felt well made but at the end of the day, It almost seemed to have too much of that noble hop/malt character A near skunkiness if that makes sense. I attribute it personally to a Beck's like Euro Lager flavor. I caught hints of that fruity yeast bite that I get out of Ayinger and Weihenstephaner. But something else stood out in the flavor that detracted from a true enjoyment. The lager bite was nice. But truly didn't stand out.

No Hofbrau this year or Pyramid. But after going through more than 16 Oktoberfests, Ayinger stands out, alongside Weihenstephaner, and Sierra Nevada.

That would be part of my top five along with Sly Fox and Stoudts.

    Cheers!

I've been drinking the hell out of SN's Octoberfest this year, and I couldn't be happier about it. Unfortunately, it's kind of been hogging all of my attention since I first had it months ago and I haven't had a chance to go to my usual rotation of Weihenstephaner/Ayinger/Paulaner + 1 nostalgic sixer of Sam Adams Octo. Lots of great Marzen/Weisn beers out there - I love this time of year.

It's Wiesn* -- says so right there on your can. So to speak.

Yeah, I'm gonna hammer this home until everyone is as big an Oktoberfest fan as me.

Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year. Locally, it is often simply called the Wiesn, after the colloquial name of the fairgrounds (Theresienwiese) themselves.

T'aint grammar McGee, it's understanding the definitions... and it'll keep you outta trouble! Go to the Wiesn and ask for a Weisen and you're gonna get looked at sideways.

I always buy a couple cases of Spaten, love Ayinger, Hacker-Pschorr, and really have liked Sierra Nevada's take on the style. My old nostalgic self has simply wonderful memories of certain women, cars, dogs, weather, and departed friends attached to Oktoberfest beers. Here's the beginning of a riddle: There's an orchard in Pennsylvania, down off the road.... never mind!

Ayinger is leaps and bounds ahead of all I've had, ever. Now, Sierra Nevada's this year was outstanding.

The German classics already suggested are all fine and worthy of pursuing. This year, however, I'd give the edge to the SN collab, which was really good and has the edge of being fairly fresh. It reminds me that I haven't had a fresh German Oktoberfest since the 1980s when I was there. Although they arrive tasting good, European ales are likely to be at least a month on the road between shipping from Germany and our unbelievably slow and inefficient distribution system, which can take weeks to get stuff from Oregon and California. Do try the Sierra Nevada, it's widely available.

Just drank the Great Lakes Oktoberfest, which had a lovely, cidery taste to it. Totally delicious! For a more traditional flavor, Sierra Nevada/Brauhaus Riegele's take on the style won me over this year too. But for the love of god, stay away from Flying Dog's Dogtoberfest (unless you want to drink a liquid spice cabinet).
